  • Abstract:

Since 1950s, space frames have been in continuous development because of its economical means of covering large column free space. The space frames are comprised of three- dimensional plane or curved meshes, these are interconnected by structural element called as bars and joints. The structural members in space frame are connected at a single node at different angles posing problem of resolution of loads and subsequent effects. Therefore, they are light in weight, structurally efficient and uses material optimally. Space frames save construction time, because they use factory produced components that can be manufactured by fast production techniques, transported to the site and erected easily. In recent years for covering large area, use of space frame increases, especially in the form of double layer space grids. Usually, space frames are formed by two meshes: One is in the bottom of the structure named as bottom chords and another is in the top, comprised by upper chords, they are generally interconnected in their nodes by diagonals and resulting in space mesh in form of tetrahedral or pyramids etc....

  • Abstract:

To improve the performance of compression ignition engine we can use some additives in biodiesel owing to its potential advantage of high surface area to volume ratio, and acting as a catalyst for better combustion. The current work deals with the experiments carried out to analyze the effect of cadmium oxide nanoparticles on the performance characteristics of a single-cylinder four-stroke compression ignition engine using microalgae methyl ester (MME)-pure diesel blend (B30) dispersed with cadmium oxide nanoparticles in the mass fractions of 50ppm, 100ppm and 150ppm with the aid of an ultrasonicator. Firstly, crude microalgae oil was transesterified into microalgae methyl ester, secondly, the blend was prepared by mixing 70% of pure diesel and 30% of microalgae methyl ester (B30) using a stirrer, then this blend was dispersed with cadmium oxide (CdO) nanoparticles in three proportions thereby designated as B30NP50, B30NP100, and B30NP150. Experiments were conducted and comparisons of diesel, B30 fuel with, and without CdO additives are presented. Finally, the experimental results revealed that, at full load condition, the BSFC, BTE, and TFC of B30NP150 were improved by 10.59%, 11.34%, and 10.69% compared to pure diesel..

We consider a method for preventing e-Fraud in which a image is encrypted with a floating point cipher using a convolution operation and then output will generate in a image ciphertext. The output is then ‗embedded' in a host image to hide the encrypted information. Decryption is accomplished by: (i) extracting the binary image from the host image; (ii) correlating the result with the original cipher. In principle, any cipher generator can be used for this purpose and the method has been designed to operate with images. The approach has a variety of applications and in this paper, we focus on the authentication and self-authentication of e-documents (letters and certificates, for example) that are communicated over the Internet and are thereby vulnerable to e-Fraud (e.g. modification, editing, counterfeiting etc.)..

  • Abstract:

The rotary inverted pendulum (Furuta pendulum) is a didact equipment used for studying and applications of control techniques, since its model has non-linearities and unstable equilibrium point when the pendulum is in the vertical position. This paper presents the modelling of a mechanical structure of a rotary inverted pendulum and, using the linearization around the operation point, describes the design of a tracking system controller to this system, considering both state feedback or observed state feedback from a state observer. Results from simulations are presented based on two comparative cases, in which, in the first one only the tracking system controller is considered and, in the second one a state observer is added to the strategy. The results show that the proposed control strategies were able to lead the linear model to the equilibrium point, as well as allow the controlled output follow reference signals. Thus, the modelling and controlling methodologies have presented promising results..

  • Abstract:

This study focused on geometric design adequacy for present truck configuration (Single Unit, Trailer and Tanker truck combinations) on frequently plied roadways in Edo State Southern Nigeria, in relation to their accommodation and safe haulage. The dimensions and operating characteristics of these trucks produce undesirable consequences such as severe off-tracking tendencies, capacity reduction, and ultimately roadway crashes on highway sections not typically designed to accommodate them. Three highways (Benin-Agbor, Benin-Ore and Benin-Sapele) with significant truck haulage ranging between 60-70% truck exposure were selected for the study. A total of 152 sections involving 679 large truck crashes over a five year period were examined. The Poisson regression model was used to analyze the truck crash data and depict the contributing significant geometric design variables by virtue of parameter estimates. Degree of curvature for horizontal alignment, vertical grade and lane width were the critical design parameters affecting truck accommodation and safety based on the model assessment. A study of this nature is intended to provide insight into key geometrics which promote safety treatments via engineering design reviews and improvements.

  • Abstract:

Even quasi-static fields can carry momentum, and this would appear to contradict a general theorem that the total momentum of a closed system is constant if its center of mass is at rest. In this case, there must be some other (hidden) momentum and reactive force that cancel the electromagnetic momentum and the electromagnetic force. In unclosed systems with changing electric current, the electromagnetic force equals to the self-force and can be very large..

  • Abstract:

The removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH)s in contaminated sites is one of the major challenges in the petroleum industry. This work aimed to select one hydrocarbonoclastic Pseudomonas aeruginosa among three isolates recovered from petrol stations and to evaluate the degradation of pyrene and anthracene in submerged culture. For bacterial screening, we chose the emulsification index and the drop collapse test. The TGC-02 isolate was selected due to its emulsification index towards four fuels and oil collapse within 48h. Further, TGC-02 was inoculated into a liquid medium contaminated with 50 mg/L (PAH)s. Tests were carried out in triplicate at 5-day intervals to determine the cellular growth, pH, cell viability, protein content and enzymatic activity over 25 days of incubation. Cellular growth in the reactors with petroderivatives were not statistically different from the...

This paper is about the performance comparison of controller for magnetic levitation system. In this study, Tilt Integral Derivative (TID) controller and Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller have been designed for a Magnetic Levitation (Maglev) system and the controller parameters have been optimized using Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) technique. A performance comparison is also done for the two optimization techniques.A performance comparison of the two methods clearly indicate that Grey Wolf Optimization is a better method among the two for tuning of PID and TID Controllers. In future there is a need for some kind of model evaluation. An extensive work on variable mass model evaluation is needed to solve the uncertainties that arise in the evaluation of controller parameters.

In this present scenario the reduction of cycle time and lead time of a component is essential to uplift the business and to satisfy the customer. The case study was taken in the assembly section of ball valve manufacturing, during the study and observation it was found that more time is consumed to assemble a single ball valve. Hence the DMAIC methodology was applied to investigate the causes to get the solution to overcome it. The various tools and techniques such as SIPOC tool, time study, brain storming, 5S have been applied under DMAIC phases. The reasons are arrived through TIMWOOD method of waste identification and solutions are suggested. The synergic approach of DMAIC and 5S have results a good solution. Finally, the time taken to assemble one ball valve i.e.2.4 min is reduced to 1.8 min and this in turn reduced the lead time of 30 days to 26 days to produce 6000 valves.

Posture is the way people carry themselves, and this posture has a substantial effect on their health particularly on our spinal cord which ultimately leads to back pain mainly due to over usage of computers, laptops and smartphones. In survey analysis we have recognized that the existing systems are having some drawbacks such as their sensor selection is not satisfied, in some cases, they lack portability and small profile module. To overcome these problems we have designed a module by using Arduino software which indicates the user by gentle vinration/ LED glow whenever he/she bends. The result will be indicated in four cases sucha s bending towards front, back, right and left. As conclusion this system will help the user to feel comfortable to wear and free to carry the module wherever he/she wish and we hope that the user can correct his/her posture by their own and later they used to maintain a proper posture..

Solid waste management is one among the basic essential services provided by municipal authorities in the country to keep a city clean. However, it is among the most poorly rendered services. The systems applied are unscientific, outdated and inefficient; population coverage is low; and the poor are marginalized. Municipal laws governing the urban local bodies do not have adequate provisions to deal effectively with the ever-growing problem of solid waste. The aim of this article is to provide an efficient and cost-effective method to get information about Garbage Collector Truck and hence providing clean, healthy and green environment. This study proposes a new framework that enables remote monitoring of Garbage Truck in real-time via Wi-Fi connection, to assist the waste management activity..

  • Abstract:

Utilization of recycled materials is the best choice in construction industry as it reduces disposal problems and is economical too. One such material which can be recycled and used in construction industry is glass. Glass is widely used in our day-to-day life but is least recycled material in India. Glass is non-biodegradable; landfills do not offer an appropriate solution for its safe disposal. Glass is predominantly composed of Silica. This paper aims to focus on replacing fine aggregate with different percentages of glass powder on different grades of concrete (M20, M25, M30, M35 and M40). For this purpose, fine aggregate replacement is done in the range of 10% to 50% at an interval of 10% and tested for compressive strength at age of 7 and 28 days. The optimal glass powder content to replace fine aggregate for different grades is obtained. The compressive test results indicated that recycled glass powder concrete gave better strength than conventional concrete. The best outcome of replacing fine aggregate with glass powder is at 20% but 30% replacement also showed marginal variation.

Various routes of steelmaking are being practiced throughout the world; oxygen steelmaking and electric steelmaking are two major routes amongst them. Electric steelmaking is further divided in induction furnace steelmaking and arc furnace steelmaking. Induction furnace route is prominent in many countries; especially in Asia. While a lot of literature is available for arc furnace steelmaking, very little is available for the induction furnace route of steelmaking. For any process to study; energy balance is the initial step. In the present work, efforts are being made to represent energy balance of induction furnace. The data is obtained from the working steel plant in India. The data of induction furnace has been compared with arc furnace obtained from the literature. Various factors affecting the energy input and output for both the type of furnaces have been discussed..

  • Abstract:

In the present era, sustainable materials and its innovations are in great demand due to continual accumulation of different local wastes, which are creating environmental hazards. In the construction industry, cement contributes to about 7% of the green house gas emissions, in the form of CO2, into the atmosphere. In this perspective, partial substitution of cement by a material containing pozzolanic properties may enhance the mechanical properties of concrete. Flyash already proved itself as a supplementary cementitious material and the disposal problem of huge quantity of flyash from thermal power stations is minimized by replacing cement with some percentage of flyash. On the other side, glass is used in many forms in our everyday life. Its lifetime is limited. The storage or safe disposal of waste glass is an environmental issue and so there is a strong need to utilize waste glass. Hence, this research is planned to examine....

To convert radio frequency (RF) energy (freely available in the environment) into usable form, RF-DC rectifiers are used. The Schottky diodes are commonly considered for RF rectification purpose as they show the best performance at high frequency and low power levels. However, exact selection criteria for Schottky diode have not been reported yet. In this paper comparison of turn ON voltage ranges and characteristics of different commercially available Schottky diode models (HSMS2850, HSMS2860, HBAT5400, SMS7621) at low power levels has been carried out. The comparison has been done at 900 MHz and 2.45GHz frequency. HSMS2850 provided maximum output voltage among the selected diodes at low input power (less than -15 dBm). This work demonstrates the selection criteria of Schottky diode and will help designers in selecting the appropriate diode for rectification purpose at low power levels.

Cliff swallows (Petrochelidon fluvicola) construct a gourd shaped mud nests below the cliff or extensions of the buildings. For constructions this bird draws a blue print of the nest designed to be completed. The bird uses the beak for construction. The material of the construction includes mud of consistency with other organic materials in small quantity. The mud is converted into pellets before placing into organised shape. The arrangement of pellets follows a definite pattern of arrangement .Stepwise organization of pellets in left or right direction of planned axis is followed and coordinated by both the birds .The entire process of construction of nest and order of arrangement of mud pellets is documented as well analyzed and discussed using JPEG image process. These birds act as good mason for their own design of nest, a marvelous imprinted engineering in these birds.

  • Abstract:

Asphalt is the main component of asphalt mixtures used as flexible pavements surface. Nowadays, for light and moderate traffic conditions, conventional asphalt performs adequately. However, under severe conditions of heavy traffic and variety climate, road distress as fatigue and permanent deformation prematurely occur. In these conditions, higher mechanical resistance is required, no longer provided by conventional asphalt. This happens because conventional asphalt has a limited capacity under heavy traffic in specific temperature ranges. In this way, the asphalt needs to be modified to improve asphalt mixtures mechanical performance in the field. This study assed the rheological behavior of asphalts modified with crumb rubber from waste tires. The tests were performed through dynamic shear rheometer, with temperature variation and frequency sweep. The rheological tests were performed with modified asphalts contained different crumb rubber content and then, compared to conventional asphalt, used as a reference. The Cole-Cole plan results showed that conventional asphalt is more susceptible to temperature variation and....

Cement is one of the most widely used material in the construction field.. Due to growing population and rapid industrialization, as a result, there is a concomitant increase in waste water volume contaminated with various constituents i.e., organic, inorganic and biological substances. Because of over population and rapid growth of industries, fresh water resources have been drastically diminishing. Metals used for plating are heavy metals having superior qualities like Nickel, Copper, Lead, Cadmium, Platinum, Mercury, Silver, Chromium etc. It has been noted that out of the total amount of these metals used in electroplating, 4% goes as waste in sludge spent wash, electroplating solutions etc. If these waters are used for farming, drinking etc, it may give detrimental effect. Hence, use of these waters has to be thoroughly examined for the purpose for which they have meant. Cement concrete industry is one...

  • Abstract:

Ground water is the water that seeps through rocks and soil and is stored below the ground. The rocks in which ground water is stored are called aquifers. Water moves through these rocks because they have large connected spaces that make them permeable. The depth from the surface at which ground water is found is called the water table. The water table can be as shallow as a foot below the ground or it can be a few hundred meters deep. Heavy rains can cause the water table to rise and conversely, continuous extraction of ground water can cause the level to fall. In summers, the Patna and other cities of Bihar become parched and drought prone. With increasing population in urban and rural areas with its proportional demand for ground water is also increasing resulting in depletion at exponential rate. As in such, cities have limited supply of safe drinking water.

Architecture and cinema are two distinctive worlds which are interlaced with each other in many ways. Their association is not only a physical establishment but also in a metaphoric sense. The vocabulary of film is found in architecture at numerous levels. Time and again, architecture manifests itself as the background of a scene, a setting for various actions or a way to convey the mood of a scene or an era. They work together like the mind and body to decipher the sensory aspects. This research will try to examine the role of architecture in cinema, to evoke the emotional response in the audience by creating a catalog of architectural elements and composition that enhance the frame to create a definite mood.

  • Abstract:

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is the most important and widely used method to study the heart related diseases. The detailed study of ECG graph by the medical practitioner helps them to understand and identify the condition of the heart. Measurements of parameters from electrocardiograms (ECGs) are largely performed from paper ECG records. In some cases, doctors seek help from senior doctors in the interpretation of ECG records. As the absence of the integrated system leads to many problems. The person having a medical history of heart ailments will have to maintain a record of all the ECG papers for timely analysis and diagnosis of the diseases. This process requires large storage space and extensive manual effort. The conventional technique of visual analysis to inspect the ECG signals by doctors or physicians are not effective and time consuming. We present a tool to convert electrocardiography (ECG) information from paper charts into digital ECG signals. Thus in this digitized world, it is required to have a tool that converts existing paper ECG records into digital format..

In recent years, security of international borders and homeland have gained momentum. Country like India which has vast border line and is surrounded by many neighbourhood countries requires lot of infrastructure to cover the border by conventional means. Laser fence based network is gaining popularity worldwide. Smart sensor network is one of the potential solutions to protect the border areas. Some other sensors like thermal/day-night camera, underground seismic sensor, Passive Infra-Red sensors (PIR) etc. are also integrated with laser fence to enhance its efficacy during poor visibility conditions and different terrains. Other conditions like rain and atmospheric turbulence may be taken care of by adding ArtificialIntelligence (AI) to networked laser fence. As per published literature, current methodology is innovative as it classifies the real time object intrusion on the basis of temporal data fusion of multiple photo sensors. Velocity, length and height of an object are taken as key parameters to generate the data sets for object classification. In this methodology, multiple data sets for different real-time objects and for different terrains can be generated and stored to achieve better accuracy for classification of objects in human, vehicle and animal..
