  • Abstract:

Progressive collapse of a structure refers to local damage due to occasional and abnormal events such as gas explosions, bomb attacks and vehicular collisions. The local damage causes a subsequent chain reaction mechanism spreading throughout the entire structure, which in turn leads to a catastrophic collapse. Certain Landmark events in the history of Progressive Collapse includes the Collapse of Ronan Point apartment tower in London, the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building collapse and the savage terrorist attack on the World Trade Centers in September 11, 2001. The structural engineers have now begun to refocus on the problem of progressive collapse. The...

ABSTRACTThis paper presents the hardware implementation of the single phase multilevel inverter using the Cascaded HBridge using Separated DC sources. The main objective of this paper is to increases the number of levels with a lower number of switches at the output without adding any complexity to the power circuit. The main advantages of the proposed method are to reduce the Total Harmonic Distortion, lower order harmonics and electromagnetic interference and to get high output voltage. To minimize the total harmonic distortion equal area criteria (EAC) switching technique is presented and it can enhance the output voltages from proposed work. Before the hardware implementation the simulation analysis has been performed using Matlab software. The Inverter is operated by using ATMEGA328 controller which generates PWM pulses. The use of Arduino makes the process of using electronics in multidisciplinary projects more accessible. It is well suited for processing control parameters such as speed of an Induction Motor.

  • Abstract:

Structural design is a process in which the designer must decide the topology of a structural system, materials to be used, arrangement of the elements and its respective dimensions. In essence, it is an iterative process. It begins with a choice made by the designer, based on his experience and technical recommendations, and is continually altered until certain project criteria are achieved, such as maximum allowable displacement and stresses. In reinforced concrete structures, the positioning of the columns is one of the choices that the designer must make. This paper implements optimization techniques, such as genetic algorithms, to find the optimum column placement in reinforced concrete frames and to provide design alternatives. By altering the dimensions of the elements and the positions of the columns, a multi-objective genetic algorithm is used to minimize costs associated with concrete, steel reinforcements, shapes and maximum displacement. This paper deviates from others present in the literature regarding the way the columns are positioned and its applications in non-regular topological structures..

  • Abstract:

The aim of this study was to identify a new bacterial strain, isolated as industrial alcoholic fermentation contaminant, and characterize chemically the EPS produced. The EPS yield was 44.5g/L in a molasses-sucrose medium under static fermentation conditions. Results of HPLC indicated that the main EPS sugars were glucose and galactose. FTIR and UV-vis spectroscopic analysis confirmed the presence of carboxyl and hydroxyl groups and absence of both proteins and nucleic acids. The structural characterization of EPS (1H NMR and 13C NMR) showed the form of α-glucopyranose rings linked by bonds, such as α-(1→6)-linked glucose, α-(1→2)-linked galactose, α-(1→3)-linked glucose and terminal branch α-(galactose). The chemical structure of the EPS was proposed on basis of these results. High.........

  • Abstract:

Flash memory is an electronic (solid-state) non-volatile computer memory storage medium that can be electrically erased and reprogrammed. The two main types of flash memory are named after the NAND and NOR logic gates. The individual flash memory cells, consisting of floating-gate MOSFETs (floating-gate metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors), exhibit internal characteristics similar to those of the corresponding gates. Flash memory is small size, lightweight, shock-resistant, nonvolatile, and consumes little power. Flash memory therefore shows promise for use in storage devices for consumer electronics, mobile computers, wireless devices and embedded systems. However, flash memory cannot be overwritten unless erased in advance. Erase operations are slow that usually decrease system performance and consume power. The number........
