  • Abstract:

Surrounded by countries who are moving continually towards economic development and stability, Kuwait has moved to establishing freight trains on the Air Cargo in Kuwait International Airport to meet the ever changing and increasing number of both passenger and cargoes going in and out of the country. As a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council or GCC it is clearly seen that as most of its member countries drive towards a collective effort to connect together by means of railroad networks, Kuwait's effort to move transportation of cargoes to and from the Kuwait International Airport by linking with the GCC's project to create railroad networks, the proposed ―Cargo City‖ becomes a major part of the realization of the development of the KIA which shall help with the aim to widen trade within and across GCC countries.

  • Abstract:

This paper presents optimal placement of Static Series Voltage Regulator (SSVR), for voltage profile improvement and power loss reduction in radial distribution systems under steady state condition. SSVR consists of a series compensator. The series compensator injects the series voltage in quadrature with the branch current in such a way that the receiving end voltage is maintained at desired value (up to 1 p.u). The criteria for selection of optimum location of SSVR are under voltage problem mitigation and loss reduction in the network under steady sate condition. Particle Swam Optimization (PSO) technique is used to find the rating of the device. The proposed model is tested using standard distribution system consisting of 33 nodes.

  • Abstract:

Coordination complexes of Cr(III)with four tridentate Schiff base ligands viz. N-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde)- -(4-nitrobenzoyl)hydrazone(HNNH = H2L 1 ), N-(2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde)- -(2-furoyl) hydrazone (HMFH = H2L 2 ), N-(2-hydroxyacetophenone)- -(2-theonyl) hydrazone (HATH = H2L 3 ) and N-(2- hydroxy-5-methylacetophenone)- -(3-toloyl) hydrazone (HMAT = H2L 4 ) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductance, thermogravimetric analysis and spectral (IR, electronic, NMR) measurements. IR spectra indicates that the ligand behave as dibasic tridentate ligand in a chelate coordinating to Cr(III) ion through ketonic oxygen, azomethine nitrogen and by both enolic and phenolic protons (except in H2L 1 by naphtholic oxygen atom) via double deprotonation of ligands. The magnetic and spectral data indicate chelate in octahedral environment and analytical data suggest 1:1 stoichiometries for the complexes.

Investigation into the diffusion dynamics of Mn2+, Fe2+ and Pb2+ ions uptake from aqueous solution by chemically modified red onion skin extract was carried out. The polyhydroxylic extract of red onion skin was utilized in the synthesis of carboxylated-epichlorohydrin red onion skin extract resin (CERR). The fourier transform infrared spectra of red onion skin extract and CERR exhibited variations in bond interactions which was ascribed to the structural modification of the extract to yield CERR. Predictions of the mechanism of diffusion dynamics were carried out by applying the data resolved from the fractional attainment of equilibrium at varied times into the Vermeulen diffusion models within the temperature range of 29 to 70°C...............

While various clustering methods have been proposed for categorical data, few studies exist on the clustering of the categorical variables that are represented as item sets (groups), e.g. fashion coordination data. In order to fill this gap, this study focuses on the patterns of similarities that are found between coordinated fashion items, so as to define a new set of score value rows for calculating similarity indexes from the patterns. These similarity indexes are then inverted into distances, based on which the clustering method proposed in this study (hereinafter ―the Proposed Method‖) is achieved................

The present paper examines the deformation behaviour of geometrical specimens of an aluminium alloy undergoing axial compression in a Universal Testing Machine under dry condition. It is observed that researchers have made attempts to investigate alternate specimens for friction calibration. It is found that ring compression test is recommended as the standard test for determination of coefficient of friction, because it gives reliable results. The effect of weight percentage of silicon carbide on microstructure, hardness and upsetting load is studied. The friction factor at die metal interface is evaluated by ring compression tests and its effect on non-uniform deformation is investigated........

  • Abstract:

Dynamic mold surface temperature control (DMTC) has many advantages in micro-injection molding as well as thin-wall molding product. In this paper, DMTC will be applied for the thin-wall molding part with the observation of the weldline appearance and the weldline strength. The heating step of DMTC will be achieved by the hot air flow directly to the weldline area. The results show that the heating rate could be reached to 4.5C/s, which could raising the mold surface from 30C to over 120C within 15 s. The melt filling was operated with high temperature at the weldline area; therefore, the weldline appearance was eliminated. In addition, the weldline strength was also improved. The results show that the thinner part had the higher strength of the weldline.

Equations of dependence of rotational and orbital motions of planets are given, their rotation angles are calculated. Wave principles of direct and reverse rotation of planets are established. The established dependencies are demonstrated at different scale levels of structural interactions, in biosystems as well. The accuracy of calculations corresponds to the accuracy of experimental data.

  • Abstract:

Reversible logic is a new technique to reduce the power dissipation. There is no loss of information in reversible logic and produces unique output for specified inputs and vice-versa. There is no loss of bits so the power dissipation is reduced. In this paper new design for high speed, low power and area efficient 8-bit Vedic multiplier using Urdhva Tiryakbhyam Sutra (ancient methodology of Indian mathematics) is introduced and implemented using Reversible logic to generate products with low power dissipation.

Public key cryptosystem plays major role in many online business applications. In public key cryptosystem, public key need not be protected for confidentiality, but the authenticity of public key is needed. Earlier, many key authentication schemes are developed based on discrete logarithms. Each scheme has its own drawbacks. We developed a secure key authentication scheme based on discrete logarithms to avoid the drawbacks of earlier schemes. In this paper, we illustrate the empirical study to show the experimental proof of our scheme.

  • Abstract:

The growth of domestic and large-scale applications of solar energy, especially photovoltaic (PV) cells which reaches annually up to 40 % worldwide since 2000, means that the technology has stepped out from demonstration phase to large-scale deployment. Several countries have started to exploit this huge potential as part of their future energy supply. Photovoltaic cells are manufactured from various semiconductors; materials that are moderately good conductors for electricity but harmful to the environment. End-of-life disposal of PV modules can be an environmental issue. However, due to the long lifespan of PV modules (25 to 30 years), currently most PV modules have not reached the disposal stage.

It is mainly useful when you want to break out of stale, established patterns of thinking, so that you can develop new ways of looking at things. The aforementioned also helps you overcome many of the concerns that can make collection problem-solving a sterile and substandard process. Though group brainstorming is often more effective at generating ideas than normal group problem-solving, study after study has revealed that when individuals brainstorm on their own, they come up with more ideas and often better quality ideas than groups of people who brainstorm together.

  • Abstract:

With a focus on large-scale IT system development projects in diverse enterprises, this research suggests that a hybrid approach combining agile and plan-driven management methods should fit in a wider context of specific project characteristics. Although the extant research illuminates the advantages of the hybrid approach, very few empirical studies actually suggested that the hybrid approach can improve the likelihood of project success. This research results show that the hybrid approach should be more scalable than the agile method, and that the hybrid approach can provide better cost-benefit ratios compared to the traditional plan-driven method........

  • Abstract:

We analysed in this paper the problem of MHD mixed convection flow from a vertical plate embedded in a saturated porous medium in the presence of melting, thermal dispersion, radiation and heat absorption or generation effects for aiding and opposing external flows. Similarity solution for the governing equations is obtained for the flow equations in steady state. The equations are numerically solved by Runge-Kutta fourth order method coupled with shooting technique. The effect of melting and heat absorption or generation under different parametric conditions on velocity, temperature and heat transfer was analyzed for both aiding and opposing flows.

  • Abstract:

Simulators have increased its usefulness in marine training over the years. Literature cites its many advantages which should ultimately lead to the increase in sea safety. However, more remarked than the discomfort felt by the trainee due to the lack of human interaction, simulation-training was noted to be costly and does not provide a clear indication of its value in organizations as no information supports this. A comparison of other technology which could be used for training is shown to provide an insight to the probable technology-based alternatives for simulators. In the search for the effects of marine-simulators on training, a few literature indicated its effects. Studies indeed specify favorable effects of simulators to training. However, no definite or quantifiable explanations were shown to relate training to its ultimate purpose of improving sea safety. Studies reviewed explored the effects of training........

  • Abstract:

Welding is a process used by many construction and manufacturing firms. Dating back to the ancient times, gas welding evolved from simple melting iron methods to more sophisticated forms and equipment that aid in safe and proper welding methods and processes. Major causes of snapping or popping are related to problems with the equipment used for welding. Gas restrictions relate to the major causes of snapping. These are backfire and flashbacks. All these problems can be solved if there are proper measures put into anticipating gas flow, thereby implementing interventions to prevent snapping or popping. A simple solution is for the worker or welder to properly work in identifying the needed process and components involved before starting the welding process. Doing so, can prevent harm, damage to people and property, and accidents. This would then make the workplace safer for everyone.......

An edge is a boundary between an object and its background. If the edges in an image can be identified accurately, all of the objects can be located and basic properties such as area, perimeter, and shape can be measured. Since computer vision involves the identification and classification of objects in an image. So for this purpose edge detection is an important tool. This technique helps to localize the significant variants of the graylevel images and to identify the physical phenomena. This information is very useful in image registration, compression, enhancement and restoration, reconstruction, understanding, recognition

The concept of generating electrical power using reluctance generator is yet to be fully exploited, which will necessitate its development into industrial standard. This research aims to facilitate the development through a comparative evaluation of the performance of caged and cageless reluctance generators. A three-phase synchronous reluctance generator was modeled using existing information and its performance with or without a cage rotor was analyzed. Evaluation of the machines' performance was carried out at both steady and dynamic states using MATLAB. The results show that a self-excited cage rotor synchronous reluctance generator yielded a power of 0.25 p.u compared to the cage-less rotor that yielded 0.2 p.u at an excitation of 62 μF; while on further excitation using capacitance of 110μF, the cage rotor yielded a higher power of 0.9p.u whereas the cageless rotor could not excite beyond 62 μF..........

Earthquakes are natural trouble under which disasters are mainly caused by damage or collapse of the structure and other man-made structures. When an earthquake occurs natural period of vibration is more on heavy loaded building and less in light loaded building. If the building is light weighted, i.e. steel is less then economy of structure is also achieved. Hence it is necessary to find out natural/fundamental time period when mass changes with different type of brick masonry and concrete masonry. This is necessary because IS 1893:2002 does not incorporate the effect of mass in a formula which they have mentioned for brick masonary structure. Custom Angle Ceiling fan can be used to regulate air flow only into areas where we need air flow, by changing the angles. (i.e.) both swiveling and tilting of the ceiling fan down-rod. The reason for the innovation of this mechanism is that, we found several areas, where the ceiling fans were installed at the wrong locations on the ceiling. Normally, the rooms are designed, according to personal wish, only after concreting the roof slab. Therefore, the hooks for hooking up the ceiling fan are to be placed during the concreting process of roof slab. But, they might not be in the correct position to blow air into all areas of the room. This is the case where, Custom angle ceiling fan can be used. The relevance of this mechanism lies in, reducing the power wastage in conditions like, fans blowing air, where it is not required.

In this paper we propose a dynamic evolving neuro-fuzzy inference system (DENFIS) to forecast mortality. DENFIS is an adaptive intelligent system suitable for dynamic time series prediction. An Evolving Cluster Method (ECM) drives the learning process. The typical fuzzy rules of the neuro- fuzzy systems are updated during the learning process and adjusted according to the features of the data. This makes possible to capture the changes in the mortality evolution at the basis of the so called longevity risk.

The detention time is reduced up to 10-15 min. which is very less as compare to conventional sedimentation tank. The average efficiency of turbidity removal is 70-80% in modified unit as compare to conventional tube settler unit.

In this paper, word recognition using neural network is proposed. Recognition process is started with the partitioning of document image into lines, words, and characters and then capturing the local features of segmented characters. After classifying the characters, the word image is transferred into unique code based on character code. This code ideally describes any form of word including word with mixed styles and different sizes. Sequence of character codes of the word form input pattern and word code is a target value of the pattern. Neural network is used to train the patterns of the words...........

Interaction between humans and humanoid avatar representations is very important in virtual reality and robotics, since the humanoid avatar can represent either a human or a robot in a virtual environment. Many researchers have focused on providing natural interactions for humanoid avatars or even for robots with the use of camera tracking, gloves, giving them the ability to speak, brain interfaces and other devices. This paper provides a new multimodal interaction control for avatars by combining brain signals, facial muscle tension recognition and glove tracking to change the facial expression of humanoid avatars according to the user's emotional condition. The signals from brain activity and muscle movements are used as the emotional stimulator, while the glove acts as emotion intensity control for the avatar. This multimodal interface can determine when the humanoid avatar needs to change their facial expression or their walking power. The results show that humanoid avatar have different timelines of walking and facial expressions when the user stimulates them with different emotions. This finding is believed..

  • Abstract:

In this paper we propose the use of an illumination invariant transform to improve many aspects of visual localisation, mapping and scene classification for autonomous road vehicles. The illumination invariant colour space stems from modelling the spectral properties of the camera and scene illumination in conjunction, and requires only a single parameter derived from the image sensor specifications. We present results using a 24-hour dataset collected using an autonomous road vehicle, demonstrating increased consistency of the illumination invariant images in comparison to raw RGB images during daylight hours. We then present three example applications of how illumination invariant imaging can improve performance in the context of vision-based autonomous vehicles: 6-DoF metric localisation using monocular cameras over a 24-hour period, life-long visual localisation and mapping using stereo, and urban scene classification in changing environments. Our ultimate goal is robust and reliable vision-based perception and navigation - an attractive proposition for low-cost autonomy for road vehicles..

  • Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to develop a mobile surveillance robot ca- pable of capturing and transmitting video on rough terrains. Recorded video is affected by jitters resulting into significant error between the desired and captured video flow. Image registration with a contrario RANSAC variant has been used to minimize the error between present and desired output video as it has proved to be a fast algorithm for video stabilization as compared to the conventional stabilization meth- ods. This is the first paper which makes use of this method to design mobile wireless robot for surveillance applications. The video captured by the robot is stabilized and transmitted to the controller in the control room. Once the video is stabilized the controller moves the objects from one place to another with the help of robotic arm mounted to the robot using a wireless transmitter and receiver. The surveillance capabilities of the system are also tested in low illumination situations as spying in dark is an important requirement of todays advanced surveillance systems.

  • Abstract:

Microgrids are a solution to many of the issues identified in the disaster review. A microgrid is a collection of controllable and physically close generators, managed in careful collaboration with local loads. By relying on a variety of generators, a microgrid system avoids many of the single-point- of-failure issues of the traditional electricity grid. Similarly, by closely managing local supply and demand, the microgrid can ensure that essential services are met, despite constraints that may exist on electricity supply. Whilst often viewed as a means of encouraging the uptake of renewable energy, or addressing challenges of peak demand, microgrids can make a significant contribution to helping with disaster preparedness and recovery.the penetration of microgrids and the fundamental challenges that need.

  • Abstract:

Harmonic minimization in multilevel inverters is a complex optimization problem that involves nonlinear transcen- dental equations having multiple local minima. In this paper, a solution to the harmonic minimization problem using a novel par- ticle swarm optimization (PSO) approach based on species-based PSO (SPSO) is presented. The original SPSO is modified, which increased the robustness of algorithm to find global optimum of the search space. The proposed method is able to find the optimum switching angles when their number is increased, while it is not possible to determine them using either conventional iterative tech- niques or resultant theory method. Theoretical results are verified by experiments and simulations for an 11-level H-bridge inverter. Results show that the proposed method..
