Abstract:
In this paper, a metamaterial based compact multiband microstrip antenna is proposed which can give high gain and directivity. Metamaterials are periodic structures and have been intensively investigated due to the particular features such as ultra-refraction phenomenon and negative permittivity and/or permeability. A metamaterialbased microstrip patch antenna with enhanced characteristics and multi band operation will be investigated in this work. The multiple frequency operation will be achieved by varying the capacitance of the metamaterial structure with the help of metallic loadings placed in each metamaterial unit cells. The potential impacts will be miniaturization, reduced cost and reduced power consumption since multiple antennas..........Keyword: Metamaterial, Microstrip Antenna, Bandwidth, Tunability, Frequency Range, Gain ×

The liquefaction is a phenomenon which occurs under seismic solicitation. The passage of a seismic wave (i.e. strong shaking) leads, in certain geological formations, to the loss of shearing resistance in saturated sandy materials. This is caused mainly by the increase of the pore water pressure generated by the cyclical deformations. The instantaneous deconsolidation of the soil is reflected by the destruction of the soil mass; making the constructions on such soils unstable. In this geotechnical investigation a case study of foundation design on liquefiable site is described. The geotechnical investigation, carried out at Kent (Ontario), consisted of the construction of a new electrical station on a liquefiable site.Key words:Case study, foundation, design, liquefaction, remedial measures. ×

Some strong earthquakes are associated with increasing of volcanic activity in near and also in far field. This research is to investigate the effect of the tectonic earthquakes in Nusa Tenggara Island area towards the October 25th,2015 eruption of Mt. Rinjani, Indonesia. Three earthquakes occurred before the eruptions; Mw 5 Sumba earthquake on June 10th 2015, Mw 5.8 South of Java earthaquake July 26th, 2016 and Mw 5 South of Bali on August 6th, 2015. In theory, dynamical stress transfer can be calculated by analyzing synthetic seismogram as a waveform simulation at the volcano and the change of dynamical stress can be calculated with the finite-difference numerical method. Our result indicates that the dynamic stress value is still below the threshold value that can trigger eruptions........Keywords:Earthquake (far-field), Mw (Moment Magnitude), synthetic seismogram, finite-difference methods, Mt. The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) aims to enhance the security of cardholder data and is required when cardholder data or authentication data are stored, processed or transmitted. The implementation of enabling processes from COBIT 5 can complement compliance to PCI DSS. COBIT 5 assists enterprises in governance and management of enterprise IT and, at the same time, supports the need to meet security requirements with supporting processes and management activities. This paper provides analysis of mapping of COBIT 5 supporting processes to PCI DSS 3.0 security requirements. It also presents domains which support the simultaneous application of COBIT 5 and PCI DSS 3.0 which would help create collaborations within the enterprise.Keywords:.......... ×

Customer clustering has become a priority for enterprises because of the importance of customer relationship management. Customer clustering can improve understanding of the composition and characteristics of customers, thereby enabling the creation of appropriate marketing strategies for each customer group. Previously, different customer clustering approaches have been proposed according to data type, namely customer profile data, customer value data, customer transaction data, and customer purchasing sequence data. This paper considers the customer clustering problem in the context of customer purchasing sequence data. However, two major aspects distinguish this paper from past research: (1) in our model, a customer sequence contains itemsets, which is a more realistic configuration than previous models........Keywords:Customer clustering, Customer segmentation, Sequence data, NMF ×

The paper suggests a staffing tool to improve efficiency at a nursing department of a local hospital. The managers consider they are understaffed and try to overwhelm the staffing deficit problem through overtime, rather than hiring additional nurses. The estimates indicate that the shortage at the hospital level corresponds to 300 full time equivalent (FTE) nurses. However, the huge amount of allocated budget for overtime becomes a concern since the deficit is not accurately estimated. Indeed, the suggested staffing tool shows that some nursing units are unnecessarily overstaffed. Moreover, the current study reveals that the real deficit is of only215 FTEresulting in a potential saving of 28%.Keywords: Nurse staffing, efficiency improvement, overstaffing, understaffing. ×

Digital fountain codes are a new class of random error correcting codes designed for efficient and reliable data delivery over erasure channels such as internet. These codes were developed to provide robustness against erasures in a way that resembles a fountain of water. A digital fountain is rateless in a way that sender can send limitless number of encoded packets. The receiver doesn't care which packets are received or lost as long as the receiver gets enough packets to recover original data. In this paper, the design of the fountain codes is explored with its implementation of the encoding and decoding algorithm so that the performance in terms of encoding/decoding symbols, reception overhead, data length, and failure probability is studied. Keywords:Fountain Codes, LT, Encoding, Erasure Codes ×

In this study, "An Investigation on Different Physical properties of Cotton Woven Fabrics", some sample fabrics were produced with plain, 2/2 twill, 3/1 twill and 4-end satin weave structure using four different weft counts. By means of regression, the correlation coefficient and correlation between different properties of fabrics were investigated. The findings of this study revealed that the crease recovery angle and the bending length are inversely proportional to each other. It was also found that with the increasing of weft yarn counts lead to a decrease in stiffness and abrasion resistance and increase increase recovery angle. The pilling and wrinkle recovery affected very low by the increase of weft yarn count and for the variation of weave structure. Plain weave was superior to other structures in stiffness where as twill weave showed higher crease recovery.Key words:Physical properties, weave structures, Woven fabric, weft count. ×

Sampling is a technique and a science. If the appropriate technique is followed it reduces the bulk mass and helps to respect the batch composition as best as possible. Non-representative sampling results in incorrect analysis. Soils and foods are materials constantly assessed. Subsampling methods, as conning and quartering are applied in solid samples. Then they could be functional in soils, and granular foods, like grains, cereals or nuts. The method is very dependent on the skill of the operator then great care must be taken when obtaining a sample by coning and quartering. It has some advantages, like the easiness, cleanness and inexpensiveness. But it is usually inaccurate and can provide non-representative samples. Keywords:Conning, food, quartering, sample, soil ×

The VLSI electronic circuit designs have steadily grown in their capacity and complexity through the years. MOSIS fabrication services provide test data that designers can used to simulate their circuit designs. The provided test results are extracted from various lot wafers and BSIM3 or BSIM4 model card parameters in addition to technology parameters are provided. It may be cumbersome to ensure design functionality over the wide range of model set of parameters. In this paper, it is proposed to utilize the average model parameters to validate circuit design functionality. It can be shown through device characterization and simple circuit simulations that the average model parameters can provide a good representation of the wide range of supplied model parameters. This is specially attractive for students of circuit design classes where classroom and graduate research work were computing resources are limited. Utilizing average model parameters alleviate the need to run simulations over the large set of models from the fabrication facility. Keywords:VLSI; Design; Automation; CAD; EDA; Higher Education, Circuit; Microelectronics. ×

Reliability in data collection for wireless sensor networks is one of the major problems in IoT applications. Sensor nodes are usually placed in harsh conditions where data communication is at risk of losing packets. Retransmissions are considered costly in terms of delay and power consumptions, especially that wireless sensor nodes are battery operated. In this context we introduce SR-Code, a novel network coding algorithm that achieves reliability in harsh conditions. SR-Code utilizes the XOR operator to code overheard packets. The targeted network topology is a 2-tier network where data loss can occur in all tiers. SR-Code utilizes bit addresses where each node is identified by a single bit in an address bit vector.........Keywords: IoT, Network Coding, Reliability, Wireless Sensor Networks ×

Security of information is becoming main target for modern network age. Internet is the most popular medium for transferring of data. The images which are being transmitted are have various applications, such as confidential enterprise archives, etc. As these images contain secret information which have to protect from unauthorized receptors during transmission of these images hence, a new secure transmission technique is proposed, by transforming confidential or secret image into meaningful secret fragment mosaic image. This mosaic tile image is almost of same size and looks similar to the selected target image........Keyword: Color Transformation, Data Hiding, Mosaic tile image, Secure image transmission, Secret fragment visible mosaic image. ×

A Schmitt trigger is an electronic circuit, a Comparator that is used to detect whether a voltage has crossed over a given reference level. It has two stable states and is very useful as signal conditioning device. When an input waveform in the form of sinusoidal waveform, triangular waveform, or any other periodic waveform is given, the Schmitt trigger will produce a Rectangular or square output waveform that has sharp leading and trailing edges. Such fast rise and fall times are desirable for all digital circuits. The state of the art presented in the paper is the design and implementation of Schmitt trigger using operational amplifier μA-741, generating a Rectangular waveform. Furthermore, the Schmitt trigger exhibiting hysteresis is also presented in the paper. Due to the phenomenon of hysteresis, the output transition from HIGH to LOW and LOW to HIGH will take place at various thresholds.Key words:Comparator, digital circuits, hysteresis, operational amplifier μA-741, rectangular waveform, Schmitt trigger. ×

Shifting cultivation is an ancient and primitive method of cultivation, also referred to as 'slash and burn' or 'rotational bush fallow agricultural system'. The practice mainly involves removal of the forests by primitive slash and burn technique followed by mixed cropping for short period before abandoning the site. Tribals all over India are known to follow the practice of shifting cultivation with some regional variations. The present study has been undertaken to estimate the spatial distribution of podu cultivation in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh by using remote sensing techniques. Results of the present study indicate that an estimated area of 10,491.857 acres of the forest area is under shifting cultivation in Srikakulam district.......Keywords:Shifting cultivation, remote sensing, mapping, environment. ×

Multi-storey buildings in metropolitan cities require open taller first storey for parking of vehicle and/or for retail shopping, large space for meeting room or a banking hall owing to lack of horizontal space and high cost. Due to these functional requirements, the first storey has lesser strength and stiffness as compared to upper stories, which are stiffened by masonry infill walls. Increased flexibility of first storey results in extreme deflections, which in turn, leads to concentration of forces at the second storey connections accompanied by large plastic deformation. In addition, most of the energy developed during the earthquake is dissipated by the column of the soft stories. In this process the plastic hinges are formed at the ends of column, which transform the soft stories into a mechanism. In such cases the collapse is unavoidable. Therefore, the soft stories deserve a special consideration in analysis and design. Keywords:Analysis, ETABs, High Rise, RCC Shear Wall, Soft Storey, Seismic Performance ×

Localization of multi-agent systems is a fundamental requirement for multi-agent systems to operate and cooperate properly. The problem of localization can be divided into two categories; one in which a-priori information is available and the second where the global position is to be ascertained without a-priori information. This paper gives a comprehensive survey of localization techniques that exist in the literature for both the categories with the objectives of knowing the current state-of-the-art, helping in selecting the proper approach in a given scenario and promoting research in this area. A detailed description of methods that exist in the literature are provided in considerable detail. Then these methods are compared, and their weaknesses and strengths are discussed. Finally, some future research recommendations are drawn out of this survey. Keywords:Localization, multi-agent, a-priori, survey. ×

In digital computer system a major problem has been found that the Power dissipation which leads to bring some research on the methods to decrease this Area efficient, high speed. This is the main cause to give birth to reversible computing systems for digital computers and designs. Reversible computing is the path to future computing technologies, which all happen to use reversible logic. In addition, reversible computing will become mandatory because of the necessity to decrease power consumption. Reversible logic circuits have the same number of inputs and outputs, and have one-to-one mapping between vectors of inputs and outputs; thus the vector of input states can be always reconstructed from the vector of output states. Consequently, a computation is reversible, if it is always possible to uniquely recover the input, given the output..........Keywords:Low Power Consumption, Reversibility, NSG, Constant Input, Garbage Output, ALU. ×

Deep rolling processes initiate plastic deformations in the surface layer. The local characteristics of deformation are dependent on the induced stress expressed by the local stress tensor. Equivalent stresses above yield strength cause plastic deformation. Additionally the intrinsic energy, e. g. the dislocation density, is enhanced and the residual stress state is changed. The effects to a deep rolled surface from an increase in temperature are mainly dependent on the material, the microstructure, the initial residual stress state, the inclusion density, the distribution of soluted alloying elements and the plastic deformation. Electrodisinfection of wastewater has been investigated extensively in the past, although a consensus over the use of direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC) as the most efficient electricity source has not been reached to date. The research presented herein compares the use of DC and AC in electrodisinfection of municipal wastewater aiming to provide conclusive evidence on the benefits of using one type of current over the other. During the experimental phase, a bench-scale electrodisinfection reactor equipped with iridium oxide-coated titanium electrodes was operated continuously, and E.coli inactivation, free and total chlorine generation were measured. The results observed indicate that, under the experimental conditions, DC represents a more efficient and economical alternative to electrodisinfection than AC.Key words:Electro-disinfection, alternating current, direct current, wastewater treatment. ×

Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning has become significant with the widely growth of multimedia applications and high increase in the number of users in both wireless and wired networks. In this paper, we implemented a session-aware policy based mechanism for QoS provisioning and control in LTE (Long Term Evolution) networks. Policies are a set of rules identifying the QoS parameters for users. Implementation included DiffServ (Differentiated Services) configuration and setting policies inside the PCRF (Policy Charging Rules Function) which is the brain entity in LTE, then mapping from QCI (QoS Class ID) to DiffServ. Moreover, the dialogue between PCEF (Policy Charging Enforcement Function) and PCRF was implemented...........Keywords:QoS, LTE, PCRF, PCEF, EPS. ×

Increased population, sub urbanization of forest, improper agricultural practices like excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers have lead to the decrease in fertility of the soil. Also due to the global warming and climate changes there is a very less rain fall which has lead to water scarcity. Apart from these problems the forest remains the only source of many herbal medicines and we find it difficult to get these herbal plants because of the urbanization of the forest. As a solution for the above mentioned complications hydroponics is said to be a better alternative. Hydroponics is the soil less growth of plants in which water mixed with nutrients is used for the cultivation of plants. Hydroponics has been used for the cultivation of food crops in western countries. As the consumption of herbal medicine is increasing worldwide, hydroponics can be used for the cultivation of medicinal plants without losing its originality and medicinal values. This method of cultivation will decrease the necessity to relay on..Keywords:Hydroponics, Vermicompost Extract, Cattle shed soil Extract ×

Nanotechnology is an upcoming technology that can provide solution for combating pollution by controlling shape and size of materials at the nanoscale. This review provides comprehensive information regarding the role of nanotechnology in pollution control at three different steps viz. Source reduction or pollution prevention, remediation or degradation of pollutants and sensing of pollutants. Due to its large surface area and high surface energy, the nanoparticles have the ability to absorb large amount of pollutants or catalyze reactions at a much faster rate, thus reducing energy consumption during degradation or helps in preventing release of contaminants. The nanosize of the particles also make it possible to reach otherwise inaccessible areas and hence promote in-situ remediation rather than ex-situ remediation. The ability of the nanoparticles to be coated with various lig-ands and control of surface area to volume ratio by changing the shape of the nanoparticles enables the design of sensors with high selectivity, sensitivity and specificity..Keywords:environment, nanotechnology, pollution, remediation, sensing, prevention. ×
