Abstract:
Manual method of sorting out for result and computing it has posed a big problem to exams unit in ChukwuemekaOdumegwuOjukwu University (COOU), In Anambra State, Nigeria. During computation of results, the exam officers collect paper results from the department and either calculate them on papers or enter them on a computer for computation. Either of them is hard work and time wasting. Hence we propose a change and retrieval agent in computing results in ChukwuemekaOdumegwuOjukwu University, Uli. Since the University already has an existing website, we require a new format for uploading results to the website using Microsoft excel witheight (8) specific columns namely: names of students, registration numbers, continuous assignment, examination score, total score, grade and remarks done by course lecturers............Keyword: ICT, Result, Management Information System, Transcript, Result Retrieval and Result Computing ×

The integration of non-dispatchable renewable energy sources (RES) poses serious challenges to power system planning and operation. At system level, a major issue regards the short and long-term frequency stability due to the reduction of regulating reserve margins, in turn brought about by the displacement of conventional generation and lack of contribution by the RES. This problem is especially present in isolated or weakly connected systems, and may become the limiting factor for renewable penetration..........Keywords:Frequency, stability, power systems, control, defense, protection, wind power, photovoltaic generation ×

The process of drilling oil and gas wells generates large volumes of drill cuttings and spent muds. The American Petroleum Institute estimated that about 150 million barrels of drilling waste was generated yearly from onshore wells in the United States alone. Of the total drilling waste, approximately 50% is solid drilling waste. The biggest contributors of drilling wastes are drilling cuttings and mud. Reducing the drilling fluids not only it reduces the waste volume, but it also reduces the environmental effects associated with it. The main purpose of drilling waste management is to find to ways by which the generation of waste can be controlled to minimize or eliminate its negative impact on the environment. Minimizing waste is always the priority, however, it not always the most cost-effective solution. The objective of this report is to provide study in, the economics of management of drilling cuttings is explored in a case from West KuwaitKeywords:......................... ×

This paper introduces a search and shift mechanism for high throughput content-addressable memory(CAM). A CAM is a memory unit that process single clock cycle content matching instead of addresses using well dedicated comparison circuitry. Most mismatches can be found by searching a few bits of a search word. The most critical design challenge in CAM is to reduce power consumption associated with reduced area and increased speed. To lower power dissipation, a word circuit is often divided into two sections that are sequentially searched or even pipelined. Because of this process, most of match lines in the second section are unused.............Keywords:Asynchronous, CAM, Latency, Throughput ×

The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of ohmic heating and ultrasound on quality parameters of red grapefruit juice (Citrus paradisi). The juice was processed by ohmic heating (120 V, 70 and 80 °C, 30 and 180 s) and ultrasound (amplitude of 40 and 50 μm, and 2 and 10 minutes). The treatments did not significantly affect the cloud value, pH, non-enzymatic browning and colorimetric parameters. The taste was the determining parameter in the choice of juice by consumers. Juices processed with ohmic heating showed sensory characteristics more like the natural juice. The best juice was obtenied by processing with OH at 70 °C for 30 s. The generation mechanism of the electromagnetic radiation in case of inhomogeneous plasma on the basis of plasma-maser interaction in presence of drift wave turbulence is studied. The drift wave turbulence is taken as the low-frequency mode field and is found to be strongly in phase relation with thermal particles and may transfer its wave energy nonlinearly through a modulated field of high-frequency extraordinary mode (X-mode) wave. It has been found that amplification of X-mode wave is possible at the expense of drift wave turbulent energy. This type of high-frequency instability can leads to auroral kilometric radiation (AKR). The growth rate of the X-mode wave, in the form of AKR, has been calculated with the involvement of spatial density gradient parameter. This result may be particularly important for stability of various drift modes in magnetically confined plasma as well as for transport of momentum and energy in such inhomogeneous plasma.Keywords:................. ×

Petroleum refineries have many process units that consume hydrogen. These process units are distributed in different places everywhere in the refinery. In order to feed them, it is necessary to have sources capable of supplying, in amount and quality, the hydrogen that every consuming unit needs. It is also needed to have a distribution network that it is correctly designed and which operation is adjusted in an optimal manner to the changing conditions of the refinery. This involves the minimization of the cost of installation and operation of the hydrogen network. The installation cost is dominated by the amount of pipelines, compressors and purifying units; while the cost of operation is dominated by the amount of fresh hydrogen that the plant consumes. In this work a mathematical model is developed for a hydrogen network, which is adapted to the different information levels available in the different stages of design of that system. The model is currently in use in the YPFLuján de Cuyo refinery (Mendoza, Argentina). Since its genesis, Pinch Analysis is continuously evolving and its application is widening, reaching new horizons. The original concept of pinch approach was quite clear and, because of flexibility of this approach, innumerable applications have been developed in the industry. Consequently, a designer gets thoroughly muddled among these flexibilities. Hence, there was a need for a rigorous and robust model which could guide the optimisation engineer on deciding the applicability of the pinch approach and direct sequential step of procedure in predefined workflow, so that the precision of approach is ensured. Exploring the various options of a novice hands-on algorithm development that can be coded and interfaced with GUI and keeping in mind the difficulties faced by designers, an effort was made to formulate a new algorithm for the optimisation activity...........Keywords:Pinch analysis, pinch approach, robust algorithm, heat integration, heat recovery, Integration of Heat Exchanger Network (HEN), Energy Optimisation. ×

The objective of this paper is to evaluate the quality of HMM based Marathi TTS system. The main advantage of HMM technique is its ability to allow the variation in voice easily. The output speeches produced in this method have greater impact on emotion, style and intonation. The naturalness and intelligibility are the two important parameters to decide the quality of synthetic speech. Depending on the parameters specified the results of synthetic speech are categorized into 4 categories: natural speech, high quality synthetic speech, low quality synthetic speech and moderate quality synthetic speech. The results are obtained by using CT, DRT and MOS test..Keyword: Mean Opinion Score (MOS), Hidden Markov Model (HMM), Diagnostic Rhyme test (DRT), Comprehension Test (CT), Naturalness and Intelligibility.. ×

Multistage distillation is most widely used industrial method for separating chemical mixtures with high energy consumptions especially when relative volatility of key components is lower than 1.5. The McCabe Thiele is considered to be the simplest and perhaps most instructive method for the conceptual design of binary distillation column which is still widely used, mainly for quick preliminary calculations. In this present work, we provide a numerical solution to a McCabe-Thiele method to find out theoretical number of stages for ideal and non-ideal binary system, reflux ratio, condenser duty, reboiler duty, each plate composition inside the column. There are two types of Phase Change Materials (PCMs) which have been developed and adopted in textiles: heat (energy released) and cool (energy absorbed). This paper discusses current PCM applications and explores future applications in firefighting gear. Phase change materials are considered latent heat storage units because as they change phase from solid to liquid, liquid to gas and vice versa, energy in the form of heat is absorbed or released. The goal of PCM textiles is to create reusable energy to maintain body temperature, as well as to optimize the performance of protective wear such as hoods. When the wearer's body temperature increases or decreases, the PCMs applied to the fabric will change state helping to regulate the wearer's body temperature by providing warmth or cooling. Integration of Cryogenic Treatment and Cryogenic Cooling with EDM process results in a newer process called as the Cryogenically Assisted Electric Discharge Machining (CEDM) process. It is one of very recent developments for the enhancement of process capabilities of EDM. In this technique, either the tool or the workpiece, or tool and workpiece both, may be, cryogenically treated down to sub zero temperatures or the EDM tool is cryogenically cooled with an objective to modify their properties. The modifications in properties result in the reduction of tool wear rate (TWR) and surface roughness (SR) and to increase material removal rate (MRR). Given the fact that loudspeakers have several nonlinearities during operation, one of the biggest challenges when designing systems for audio transmission is to ensure that the input signal will be properly reproduced, free of noise and free of spurious frequencies. This paper presents a model that incorporates the main nonlinearities of a loudspeaker in order to provide reliable results for the sound system design in low frequencies. The proposed model considers an acoustic system and also an electrical system that, coupled, represent the functioning of a general loudspeaker. The acoustic system is solved by the Finite Element Method. The electrical system is divided into two parts, one representing the electrical elements of the loudspeaker, and other representing the mechanical part of it.Keywords:Effective stiffness, loudspeaker, nonlinearity, resonant frequency ×

In conventional circuits, the logic gates such as AND gate, OR gate is irreversible in nature and computing with irreversible logic results in energy dissipation. This problem can be circumvented by using reversible logic. In ideal condition, the reversible logic gate produces zero power dissipation. Multimedia applications are becoming increasingly significant in modern world. The mushroom growth of multimedia data of these applications, particularly over the web has increased the demand for protection of copyright. Digital watermarking is much more acceptable as a solution to the problem of copyright protection and authentication of multimedia data while working in a networked environment. In this paper, a DWT based watermarking scheme is proposed. We have used Genetic Algorithm (GA) in order to make an optimum tradeoff between imperceptibility and robustness by choosing an optimum watermarking level for each coefficient of the cover image. In addition to the suitable watermarking strength, the selection of best block size is also necessary for superior perceptual shaping functions.......Keyword: Steganography,Watermarking,Discrete Wavelet Transform,Genetic Algorithm, Peak Signal to noise Ratio, Data Hiding.. ×

These currents result in distorted voltages and currents that can adversely impact the system performance in different ways. As the number of harmonic producing loads has increased over the years, it has become increasingly necessary to address their influence when making any additions or changes to an Installation............Keywords:... ×

Reinforced Concrete is composed of concrete and steel, where compressive strength of concrete and tensile strength of steel are utilized to achieve the required member strength. The high tensile property of steel is thus used to confine and increase compressive strength and ductility of RC columns. Confined concrete is defined as concrete that is restrained laterally by any internal or external means i.e. reinforcement consisting of steel stirrups or spirals, Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP), Circular Concrete Filled Steel Tube, RC shell jacketing etc. An appropriate amount of confinement increases the strength, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of RC members. This paper focuses on finding out strength and ductility enhancement of low strength RC columns by reinforcement using existing confinement models...Keywords:confined concrete, axial loads, ductility, low strength concrete, confining models ×

Medical Big Data (MBD) consists of very useful type of information. It is very important for a physician for decision making and treatments to cure the patient. For accurate diagnosis, data availability is the most important factor. MBD over network needs intelligent compression schemes so that it is transferred to the destination by utilizing available bandwidth. Wavelet Compression schemes compress the MBD without losing the important information, thus making the information reliable and less in size. Keywords:Medical Big Data, Haar, Orthogonal, Biorthogonal, Wavelet Compression. ×

The optimal digital autopilot needed to control of the roll for an aircraft in the presence of an arbitrary unmeasured disturbances is addressed in this paper. Such autopilot has to achieve a desired lateral motion control of this aircraft via minimizing the upper bound on the absolute value of the difference between the given and true roll angles. It is ensured by means of the two digital controllers. The inner controller is designed as the discrete-time PI controller in order to stabilize a given roll rate. This variable is formed by the external P controller. The necessary and sufficient conditions under which the two-circuit feedback discrete-time control system will be stable are derived. To optimize this control system, the controller parameters are derived utilizing the so-called l1-optimization approach advanced in modern control theory....Keywords:Aircraft, Lateral Dynamics, Digital Control System, Discrete Time, Stability, l 1-Optimization, Random Search Algorithm, Robustness ×

Pakistan is endowed with a vast variety of minerals including coal. However, despite its significant amount of coal deposits of about 186billion tons, no significant contribution to the country's GDPhas been realized from this resource. Also, in the face of the possession of this 'richness' in coal deposits, the country is still facing acute shortage of electricity, which wipes off about 2% of GDP annually. The current deposits of coal can give Pakistan its much needed social and economic boost. Unfortunately, Pakistan has not been able to utilize its Thar coal potential fully since its discovery in 1992, for instance, due to policy issues and other concerns. This paper investigates the current markets, trends and utilization modes for Pakistan's coal with reference to the reasons for failure of the Thar coal project as well as opportunities available for Pakistan, going forward.Keywords:........... ×

Abstract:
Earthquakes create vibrations on the ground that are translated into dynamic loads which cause the ground and anything attached to it to vibrate in a complex manner and cause damage to buildings and other structures. Civil engineering is continuously improving ways to cope with this inherent phenomenon. Conventional strategies of strengthening the system consume more materials and energy. Moreover, higher masses lead to higher seismic forces. Alternative strategies such as passive control systems are found to be effective in reducing the seismic and other dynamic effects on civil engineering structures.......Keyword: Tuned mass damper (TMD), Base Isolation (BI), Multistoried building, and Seismic behaviour. ×

Speech synthesis we can, in theory, mean any kind of synthetization of speech. For example, it can be the process in which a speech decoder generates the speech signal based on the parameters it has received through the transmission line, or it can be a procedure performed by a computer to estimate some kind of a presentation of the speech signal given a text input. Since there is a special course about the codecs (Puheen koodaus, Speech Coding), this chapter will concentrate on text-to-speech synthesis, or shortly TTS, which will be often referred to as speech synthesis to simplify the notation. Anyway, it is good to keep in mind that irrespective of what kind of synthesis we are dealing with, there are similar criteria in regard to the speech quality. We will return to this topic after a brief TTS motivation, and the rest of this chapter will be dedicated to the implementation point of view in TTS systems.............Key words:Speech Coding, speaker, single, Phonetic analysis. ×

Now a day's accidents due to brake failure are increasing in a high margin, so safety has acquired a greater priority. In order to control this sudden brake failures we have modified the conventional braking systems in automobiles by adding an extra safety brake to the engine shaft. The idea of the work is to improve the safety parameters regarding the brakes. Engagement of the secondary brake without the assistance of driver is an advantage for this system. As it would make the vehicle to stop without any lag. A Hall effect sensor is used to detect the motion of wheel by noting the magnetic field. The signals given out from the sensor directs the microcontroller to operate the relay and hence to actuate the solenoid and thereby actuating the secondary brakeKeywords:Alternate safety braking, Hall effect sensor, Brake failure. ×

As a result of global warming, the climate change in Africa and Asia is predictably becoming more variable, and weather events expected to go more frequently extreme and severe. This includes increasing risk of drought and flooding in new areas. Inundation by extreme floods events is recorded every year worldwide. The potential consequences are profound increasing risk, particularly on environment and people in the less developed countries. Flooding cannot be totally avoided and maybe their occurrence will increase due to climate change. Absolute protection is both unachievable and unsustainable because of high costs and inherent uncertainties. Image steganography is the art of hiding information into a cover image. This paper presents a novel technique for Image steganography based on DWT, where DWT is used to transform original image (cover image) from spatial domain to frequency domain. Firstly two dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform (2-D DWT) is performed on a gray level cover image of size M × N and Huffman encoding is performed on the secret messages/image before embedding. Then each bit of Huffman code of secret message/image is embedded in the high frequency coefficients resulted from Discrete Wavelet Transform. Image quality is to be improved by preserving the wavelet coefficients in the low frequency sub-band. The experimental results show that the algorithm has a high capacity and a good invisibility. Moreover PSNR of cover image with stego-image shows the better results in comparison with other existing steganography approaches. Furthermore, satisfactory security is maintained since the secret message/image cannot be extracted without knowing decoding rules and Huffman table. Keywords:Steganography, Frequency Domain, DWT, Huffman Coding, Information Hiding ×
