Abstract:
During the forming process of sheet metal component i.e., REINF-RR END UPR-LH/RH, defects such as wrinkle and thinning is observed. These defects can be reduced by varying the process parameters by trial and error method which loss in time and money. The final component is obtained in its desired quality by optimizing the various process parameters which affect more on the forming process. This requires thorough knowledge about the process and expertise in tool design. In this project, Finite element method (FEM) is used to analyze the strain and thickness variations during the REINF-RR END UPR-LH/RH forming process and optimization is carried out using Design of experiment (DOE) technique. In this case, HYPERFORM software is used for the simulation of the component which avoids manufacturing the tool for the tryout. The optimization of process parameters is done by using DOE by Taguchi's orthogonal arrays in Minitab software. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used to find out most effective parameter. The result of optimization is validated with actual formed component with same optimized parameters..Keyword: Design of experiments, Finite element method, Sheet metal forming, Taguchi, Thinning ×

A single-layer a compact microstrip-fed Slotted patch antenna with capabilities of both bandwidth enhancement and harmonic suppression is proposed. For this purpose, a pair of λ/4 microstripline resonators is introduced and coupled in proximity to a cross slits rectangular patch. The Size reduction is obtained by using plus slits introduced in middle of rectangular patch and the wideband property can be obtained by making effective use of the two resonances introduced by the radiating patch and nonradiating λ/4 resonators. Different from other reported dual-resonance patch antennas, the proposed antenna does not require the electrically thick substrate, so it has attractive low-profile property. Thanks to the good features of λ/4 resonators and capacitive feeding scheme, harmonic radiating modes of the patch antenna can be significantly suppressed as highly demanded in modern highly integrated communication systems. The working principle and design procedure are extensively described. Finally, a prototype antenna........Key words:Bandwidth enhancement, coupled feed, harmonic suppression, slotted patch antenna, quarter-wave resonator. ×

This present paper depicts the effect of normal load on the wear (micron) and coefficient of friction of Ipomoea Carnea strengthened/reinforced epoxy composites with various weight % of fiber fraction (10%,20%,30%,40% wt). The dry sliding wear test was studied according to ASTM-G99 standard using Pin-on-Disc Tribometer manufactured by DUCOM Instruments Pvt. Ltd. To calculate the wear in micron and coefficient of friction of Ipomoea Carnea reinforced epoxy composites the pin of 12 mm diameter of given fiber composites were fabricated and tested under three different loading conditions (10N,20N,30N) for each fiber weight concentration. Friction and wear measurement was accomplished through load cell and LVDT respectively. The Pin-on-Disc Tribometer acquired real time data of wear, and coefficient of friction with time(sec). Each test were conducted for 10 min (600 sec) under dry condition and data for wear (micron) and coefficient of friction with variation of time (100 sec interval) were recorded from the monitor and graphs from obtained data were plotted in Microsoft excel..Key words:Composites, Pin-on-Disc, wear, friction, LVDT. ×

River and streams are the vessels of this globe through which the blood of earth (water) flows to keep living the planet like human being and plant kingdom. The beauty of this planet in comparison to other planets of this universe is due to existence of life in the globe which is possible only due to presence of sufficient water in the earth. History reveals that most of the world civilization has been formed on the bank of some big river that is civilization and rivers are closely related to each other. So many big cities are also situated in the bank of rivers. This article discusses the relation between topic-specific word trees ("ontologies") and the retrieval of information from a chatbot‟s recent conversation – the conversational context. I assume the conversational context includes the sequence of recently visited nodes of the topic tree. So we caninterpret context retrieval as a problem of selection from this sequence, in reverse order. We will see that a surprisingly small set of selection methods support a diversity of indeterminate words and phrasesthat may need to be handled by a chatbot: like "it", "them", "what‟s the difference?", "the third", etc.An essential part of the solution is the way context is filteredto contain only the kinds of items we are expecting to find in the current input but that are missing. What is expected but missing drives context retrieval. In practice when an input sentence is encountered that is not understood and contains an indeterminate word, a chatbot may be allowed a second pass after retrieving and inserting recent context into the input.Theseideas are implemented in Python at: https://github.com/peterwaksman/Narwhal.Key words: ....... ×

This paper is aimed at finding the buckling load of columns by using a different approach than the traditional methods. One-dimensional maps are often seen in dynamic systems to describe how a regular motion changes into an irregular motion through bifurcations. The totalpotential energy is one of the traditional methods to find the buckling load of a structure. At first sight, it seems that these two are irrelevant. However, due to the fact that they are bothrelated to the bifurcation theory, this paper first transform the equilibrium condition of the total potential energy of a structure into the form of a one-dimensional map.By locating the first bifurcation point of the one-dimensional map, the buckling load of the structure can then be obtained. There are three examples given in this paper to demonstrate this innovative approach. The results show that the one-dimensional map theory works well and can be used as an alternative for finding the buckling load..Key words: One-DimensionalMap, Total Potential Energy, Buckling Load, Bifurcation Theory. ×

This comparative study focuses on the behavior of a mid-rise long building in the presence and absence of an expansion joint under seismic, wind and temperature loading using Staad Pro software. In this study 2 models are subjected to different load cases involving gravitational loads, temperature loads, seismic and wind loads in the presence and absence of expansion joint and the parameters like displacements, drifts, bending moments and steel consumption were evaluated. From the study it was observed that both the Models showed considerably lesser values of parameters like Steel consumption, Maximum Bending Moments, Storey drift and Average displacements in the presence of an expansion joint. Based on the overall output is can be suggested that the elimination of the expansion joint should be considered only for Model A because in case of Model B the structure was seen to become very uneconomical with increased values of the parameters compared under higher seismic zones..Key words: Seismic Analysis, Expansion joints, Temperature stresses ×

Rapid growth in the number of vehicles and vehicle activity makes this particularly true in cities in developing countries. It is generated due to incomplete combustion of the fuel in automobiles. It is observed to be as high as 70% of the total pollutants at urban environment, especially, in the near fields of urban roadways and intersections. Therefore, in present study, an attempt has been made to validate the air quality model (Caline – 4) through monitored and predicted CO concentrations. A typical urban roadway Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg containing highest traffic volume, heterogeneous traffic composition along with typical traffic flow conditions has been selected for validation of Caline – 4 model. The air quality (carbon monoxide) monitoring and prediction has been carried out as per standard procedure. Several landslides incidents in the Bujumbura region are reported regularly by independent sources. However, few studies on the causes in the region have been conducted and no record of susceptibility map at a regional exists. In this study, two different approaches are applied to map landslide susceptibility in the region. The physical approach is based on mohr-coulomb failure criterion and is applied using a probabilistic approach, the first order second moment method. The statistical approach is based on logistic regression. The study has two objectives: (i) to map landslide susceptibility in the region and (ii) to compare the results of the different approaches. Applying the two approaches in a GIS framework, two susceptibility map are produced. The accuracy of the two models is independently assessed using ROC and AUC curves. A thermal analysis showed low process efficiency due to the direct contact MD configuration used. The best energy performance obtained during this study was presented in specific thermal energy consumption and gained output ratio values of 1737 kWh/m3 and 0.37, respectively. Very high energy consumption was found at the startup of the daily operation (up to 4949.2 kWh/m3). Operating the unit for seawater desalination gave a maximum daily averaged permeate flux of 3.36 l/m2h observed during July 14 operation for a total incident solar energy of 3.996 kWh/m2. When settlers first occupied west Texas in the 1800‟s they believed that the underlying "Ogallala Aquifer" had the capacity to provide a more than an adequate supply of the residents‟ fresh water needs. The Ogallala is beneath the surface in the following: West Texas Panhandle, far eastern New Mexico, Oklahoma Panhandle, western Kansas, eastern Colorado, western Wyoming, southern South Dakota, and most of Nebraska. Large-scale extraction of water from the "Ogallala Aquifer" for agricultural purposes started after World War II, due partially to the development of the "centre pivot" irrigation technology and the adaptation of automotive engines for pumping water from groundwater wells.[1] Today about 27% of the irrigated land in the entire United States lies over this Ogallala Aquifer, which yields about 30% of the ground water used for irrigation in the United States.[2] However, the Aquifer is presently at risk for both over-extraction and pollution. Currently used horizontal drilling techniques and subsequent "fracking" are enhanced production methods that are efficient........Key words: ...... ×

Abstract:
Wing-in-Ground vehicles and aerodynamically assisted boats take advantage of increased lift and reduced drag of wing sections in the ground proximity. At relatively low speeds or heavy payloads of these craft, a flap at the wing trailing edge can be applied to boost the aerodynamic lift. The influence of a flap on the two-dimensional NACA 4412 airfoil in viscous ground-effect flow is numerically investigated in this study. The computational method consists of a steady-state, incompressible, finite volume method utilizing the K-epsilon turbulence model. Grid generation and solution of the Navier-Stokes equations are completed using computer program Fluent. The code is validated against published experimental and numerical results of unbounded flow with a flap, as well as ground-effect motion without a flap. Aerodynamic forces are calculated, and the effects of Reynolds number and ground height are presented for the airfoil. Changes in the flow introduced with the change in ground height are also discussed.Keyword: .... ×

This paper presents the observations of an experimental work dealing with the measurement of normalized mean velocity and wall static pressure of a 90° C-shaped curved duct. The test duct is made up of transparent perspexsheet to facilitate the flow visualization study. The duct has a centerline distance of 750mm. The Inlet and Outlet aspect ratio of the test duct used is 1.0. Wall pressures are measured with the help of an inclined manometer withthe inclination of 35°. The manometer had two tubes emanating from it: one left open to the atmosphere and the other connected to the steel pipes attached to the four walls of the curved duct. The difference in the readings helped calculate the static pressure and thereby the normalized pressure. Wall pressure distribution along the curved and parallel walls of the duct at 0°, 22.5°, 45°, 67.5° and 90° measuring sections was measured. This work compares two equations of state applicable to natural gas mixtures, namely, the GERG-2008 equation of state (EoS), which was proposed as a high-accuracy reference model, and the traditional Peng-Robinson (PR) EoS. This comparison is done in terms of the accuracy of calculated properties such as pressure and density with respect to experimental data from the literature, as well as in vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE) calculations. It was found that the GERG-2008 EoS gives better results in comparison with PR for the calculation of density and pressure, generating deviations in the range from 0.1 to 1%. For the VLE calculations, the accuracy of GERG-2008 was slightly better than PR. However, this accuracy is accompanied with increased mathematical complexity, resulting in increased computational time (2 to 6 times higher). This is due to the fact that the calculation of molar density of GERG-2008 requires an iterative calculation for the liquid and vapor phases, which makes the resolution of the VLE calculation slowerKey words: Equation of state, GERG-2008, Natural gas, Multiparametric Equation, Peng-Robinson. ×

The application of a DC electric field has been investigated as a method to improve the combustion efficiency of combustion devices in the face of a dire need to efficiently utilize our limited energy sources. Experimental studies have been carried out[1-4]to investigate the influence of an electric field on the combustion of a droplet. In this study, the simplified burning droplet model is used to predict the droplet lifetime with and without an electric field. Comparisons are also made with different available models [5, 6] and the results assessed. The electric force per unit volume exerted on neutral gas molecules is known to provide the convective effect, known as the "ionic wind", around the droplet in the presence of an electric field. Knowledge of the force distribution around the burning droplet may provide a better insight on the mechanisms and potentially improved control of the combustion of the droplet. Towards this end, different electrode configurations – plane, divergent and convergent – providing varying electric field have been explored. The results suggest that the divergent electrode configuration yields the largest force per unit volume of the combustion gases..Key words: ..... ×

Effect of 10 mol% Glutamic acid doping on the properties of triglycine sulphate has been studied. Glutamic acid doped triglycine sulphate single crystals have been grown from aqueous solutions by low-temperature solution growth method. The practical substitution of an optically active molecule in the place of glycine molecule causes an internal bias field, which makes the crystal permanently polarized. The dielectric studies were carried out to identify the phase transition temperature and the dielectric behavior. The shift in the Curie temperature from 322 to 324 K in the doped crystals is due to the presence of high polarization capacity of glutamic acid..Key words:TGS crystals, glutamic acid doping, dielectric constant, dielectric loss, AC conductivity, DC conductivity ×

Pushover analysis is a static, nonlinear procedure in which the magnitude of the structural loading is incrementally increased in accordance with a certain predefined pattern. It helps in evaluating the real strength of the structure. With the increase in the magnitude of the loading, weak links and failure modes of the structure are found. Structural asymmetries are commonly found in constructions. In this paper an attempt is made to study the applicability of Pushover Analysis to frames having different types of asymmetries with seismic interpretation and developing a method for arriving at failure loads based on spectral stiffness and to take care of asymmetries in PO analysis. Reference graphs developed yield the accurate results for the effect of asymmetry without doing pushover analysis repeatedly for different asymmetries. A need for interpretation in terms of seismic loads exists as it will help in assessing damage and rehabilitation methods on site, without resorting to sophisticated analysis. It gives indicators on safety of the frame with asymmetry, with the original frame designed for a specific zone.
