Abstract:
Metal organic coordination complex single crystals bis thiourea cadmium acetate (BTCA) and L cystein doped BTCA have been synthesized and grown successfully by slow evaporation technique using water as solvent at room temperature. The lattice parameters were analyzed by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The surface analysis of the grown crystal was studied using AFM studies and the results are discussed in detail. The optical properties of these crystals were investigated by UV–Visible as well as photoluminescence spectroscopy. The mechanical stability of the grown crystals was confirmed through Vickers micro hardness study. By parallel plate capacitor technique, the dielectric response was studied over a wide range of frequencies.Keyword: Thiourea, AFM, solution growth, non linear optical crystal, Microhardness ×

Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological problem in which brain activities becomes abnormal, causing seizure or unusual behavior and sometimes loss of awareness. An electroencephalogram (EEG) signal is used to detect problems in electrical activity of the brain that is associated with certain brain disorders. In this paper, electroencephalogram signals were decomposed into the frequency sub-bands using DWT and set of statistical features were extracted from the sub-bands to represent the distribution of wavelet coefficients. Later, extracted features are given as an input to the neural network for classification of normal and epileptic signal. EEG signal is collected from the publically available Bonn dataset. Experimental results show that 99.8% accuracy is achieved in the classification using the proposed method..Key words:Artificial Neural Network, Back Propagation Neural Network, Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Electroencephalogram (EEG), Epilepsy ×

Drift or distortion really governs the performance of a building in terms of damage both to the structural frame and to non-frame elements. In the year 1976, uniform building code (UBC) is probably the first code to set adrift limit. Drift in building frames is the result of flexural and shear mode contributions, due to columns axial deformations and to the diagonal and girder deformations. In low rise braced structures, the shear mode displacements are the most significant and will largely determine the lateral stiffness of the structure. In medium to high rise structures the higher axial forces and deformations in the columns, and the accumulation of their effects over a greater height cause flexural component of displacement to become dominant. The drift problem become more critical in soft storied RCC building particularly when kept open at Ground floor. Design storey drift ratio is the relative difference of design......Key words:Shear mode, Inter storey drift, Seismicdrift, soft storey, Lateralstiffness. ×

A comprehensive study was conducted to examine the removal of inorganic contaminantswhich exist in surface and groundwater in the Illawarra and Sydney regions. The ability of nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis (RO) systems was investigated using two commercially available NF/RO membranes. Laboratory-scale tests used a cross-flow cell; tests were conducted with 10 ubiquitous solutions that represent the significant inorganic cations and anions commonly found in contaminated surface water. This study concluded that the removal efficiency of RO was better than NF in rejecting the inorganic contaminants detected in surface water. This study revealed that theperformance of the NF and RO membranes in rejecting divalent ions was higher than that for monovalent ion rejection and this can be attributed to multivalent ions with large hydrated radii.........Key words:Reverse osmosis (RO) Nanofiltration (NF) Botany Bay Russell Vale. ×

Abstract:
Traditional projects and Agile projects require different approaches to systematically structure and develop project teams. Agile projectteams, as compared to traditional teams, question assumptionsroutinely, innovate, propose and implement incremental changes, and deliver value frequently.Project managers actively look for improved methodologies, processes, and practices for successful completion of projects. This research addresses the gap in the literature that suggests anincomplete understanding of the differences between team attributes for traditional and Agile projects. This paper explores relations between team attributes and project success factors for traditional projects and Agile projects and proposes hypotheses for future research.Keyword: Agile project teams, project success, project teams, Agile projects, project team attributes, project success ×

In Indian structural codes, Performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE) methodology has not been implemented yet. It is widely developed during the past two decades, and has become a key approach for seismic analysis and design in most developed countries. Therefore, further research is required to develop a domestic approach for Indian applications. In this paper, the seismic capacity of a typical T girder concrete highway bridge designed as per Indian Standards is evaluated througha probabilistic method as well as nonlinear static analysis (pushover analysis). Two different types of substructures, single-column and multi-column bents are considered separately. Fragility curves are developed and used for evaluation purposes. Detection of the availability of unused spectrum for the secondary user becomes difficult when the channel is affected by composite fading. In this paper, analytical expressions of average probability of detection and average area under the receiver operating characteristic over Nakagamim/ log-normal with maximum ratio combining diversity are derived using Gaussian-Hermite integration approximation. In addition, an optimized threshold has been incorporated to overcome the problem of spectrum sensing even at low signal-to-noise ratio. Emission reduction and enhanced efficiency are the prime requirement for present day automotive engines. 2- Stroke IC Engines have definite advantages when compared to 4-Stroke IC Engine in terms of weight, power, and cost. 2 stroke IC Engine has the ability to produce greater power than 4 stroke IC Engines for the same displacement volume of the cylinder. Reduction in emissions along with SFC of such engines still makes them a viable alternative for their use in light motor cycles and micro light aircrafts. Extensive review of the available literature on the subject reveals that systematic methodology for choosing the right piston chamber geometry, location of inlet and exhaust port with respect to the transfer port, intake / exhaust port, opening and closing timings could be optimised for a given operating compression ratio and fuel composition to increase the efficiency of such engines. Ultra High Strength Concrete (UHSC) is characterized by extraordinary mechanical properties (high compressive and tensile strength, large E-modulus) and has excellent durability properties regarding corrosion of concrete and reinforcement. Until the peak load the behavior is predominantly linear-elastic, large deformations at peak cannot be observed, and the reached post-peak strain is nearly zero. These facts point out the very brittle material behavior. The structural behavior of UHSC columns was investigated through an experimental program comprising applying biaxial bending on large-scale specimens. The experimental program of this study includes testing of five reinforced concrete square columns. The program was designed to clarity the effect of different eccentricity ratios (e/t = 0, 0.1, 0.2,0.4 and 1.0). Presented is an observer-based parameter estimation solution for a class of linear, discrete-time systems. The proposed formulation embeds the problem of parameter estimation within a parametric uncertain observer formulation where the state and output matrices are expressed as A= A0 +DA and C =C0 +DC . The methodology is developed by creating general solutions for the uncertainty matrices DA and DC. A unique solution for each is recovered by parameterizing the general solution subject to a rank condition. The primary advantage of the proposed method is that individual parameters within the linear state equation matrices can be estimated using input/output data.......Key words:stability, state observer, system identification, uncertain systems. ×

Abstract:
As large amounts of digital information become more and more accessible. The ability to effectively find relevant information is increasingly important. Search engines have historically performed well at finding relevant information by relying primarily onlexical and word based measures. Similarly, standard approaches to organizing and categorizing large amounts of textual information have previously relied on lexical and word based measures to perform grouping or classification tasks. Quite often, however, these processes take place without respect to semantics, or word meanings. This is perhaps due to the fact that the idea of meaningful similarity is naturally qualitative, and thus difficult to incorporate into quantitative processes.Keyword: our semantic distance metric can be used to improve document clustering in distance-based clustering algorithms queries ×

Sustainable energy sources are considered to be a pre-requisite for the development of human and global prosperity. The mono-digestion of farm residues is considered to have a lower biogas potential than codigestion. This study determined the effect of co-digesting peels of cassava and yam on biogas yield at mesophilic temperature. The substrates (cassava and yam peels) were collected from cassava and yam processing centre in Osogbo, Osun State. The chemical properties (dry matter, organic dry matter, total ash and protein) and amounts of substrates fed into the fermentation bottles were determined using Association of Official Analytical Chemists and German standard procedures, respectively. Cassava Peel (CP) and Yam Peel (YP) were co-digested at combinations 100%CP, 100%YP, 25%CP and 75%YP, 75%CP and 25%YP and finally 50%CP and 50%.......Key words:Biogas, co-digestion, cassava peel, yam peel, batch reactor, yields. ×

IP telephony is an alternative over traditional telephony due to the reduction of costs in its calls, so the bits transmitted between extensions using multiVoIP devices (MVP) is 96 bits and the transmission of two extensions (terminal A to B) using Two MVP is 292 bits per call, thus giving a 67.1% saving in data transmission in each call under IP. The telephone communication with IP technologies uses oriented and noncommunication oriented protocols, since with TPC / IP 40 packets are transmitted, giving 10.5% of the communication between two extensions; while UDP (non-communication oriented) occupies 357 packets, this is equivalent to 89.5% of the communication, thus asserting that most of the packets used are UDP, so communication in low IP calls does not have a large percentage of security in the transmitted data..Key words:Networks, Voice over IP, Network Standards, Protocols, VoIP, H.323.. ×

Most residential low rise buildings in Kuwait are constructed using reinforced concrete and infill walls. The behaviour of concrete buildings under seismic loading is dependent on ductility and stiffness of concrete buildings which depends on the quality of materials used in construction, the level of technology adopted in design and construction and the workmanship. This paper presents a research done on the effects of earthquakes on concrete buildings in Kuwait. Most buildings are constructed in river valleys where the soil formations are mass deposits of silt and sand, and the sites are characterised by shallow water tables. Weak sites produce higher amplification factors as compared to firm grounds in an event of ground movements. Design and construction of concrete buildings resistant to earthquakes depends on the risk involved in loss of life and the probability of occurrence of earthquakes in the area. In Kuwait City, tall buildings have been constructed with earthquake resistant features in accordance to local earthquake design code to enable them stand without damage in the event.....Key words:...... ×

Numerical simulation about the packing density of spherical particles with normal distribution of particle size was carried out by discrete element method (DEM) software. First, the model of mono-sized spherical particles (30μm) was established to verify the rationality of numerical simulation. Second, it was found that for spherical particles with normally distributed particle size, the packing density is generally higher than mono-sized particles (theoretical packing density is 0.7406). By analyzing the porosity change curve of spherical particles with different variance(σ), the results show that with the increase of σ, the porosity decreases firstly and then increases, which is opposite to the trend of packing density. By comparing the simulation results with Horsfield compact packing theory, it was demonstrated that the packing density of spherical particles with normally distributed particle size is generally between 0.7406 (unitaryspherical particles) and 0.793 (binary spherical particles). And also, when the spherical particle model parameter is μ=30μm and σ=20, the packing density reaches a maximum value 0.795, which is slightly higher than the theoretical packing density of the binary spherical particles.Key words:...... ×

In this paper, an organization subjected to a random exit of personnel due to policy decisions taken by the organization is considered; there is an associated loss of manpower if a person quits the organization. As the exit of personnel is unpredictable, a recruitment policy involving two thresholds, optional and mandatory is suggested to enable the organization to plan its decision on appropriate univariate policy of recruitment. Based on shock model approach, two mathematical models are constructed using an appropriate univariate policy of recruitment. The analytical expressions for mean and variance of time to recruitment is obtained for model I when i) loss of manpower forms a sequence of independent and non-identically distributed exponential random variables ii) inter-decision times are order statistics iii) optional and mandatory thresholds having extended exponential distribution. This paper presents a theoretical exploration of the electrodynamic behaviours of one- and two-dimensional photonic crystals, consisting of composite material and dielectric layers. Specifically, we determine the photonic-bandgap for various photonic materials, such as Gallium Arsenide (GaAs), Sapphire (Al2O3), and Plexiglas (C5O2H8)n. It is shown that the width of the photonic-bandgap depends primarily on the physical parameters of the structure. In addition, the higher the permittivity of the material, the greater the number of bands of significant width.Using the method of decomposition of plane waves, we show that GaAs is the material having a larger prohibited bandwidth. Finally, we compare numerical results in 1-D and 2-D system. Two different techniques have been studied to improve the corrosion resistance of the austenitic stainless steel(304L). The first technique is the plasma nitriding using a mixture of N2-H2 gasesand the second technique is the chemical polishing. The potentiodynamic polarization measurements were used to compare between the effects of the two techniques on the corrosion resistance of the stainless steel. The corrosion potential of thenitrided sampleswas improved by 61% while in the case of the samples that chemically polished it was improved by 13%. X- ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of the nitride sample confirms the formation of Fe2-3N, Fe4N, and CrN nitridephases and also the formation of the super saturated nitrogen-rich phase "S-phase" which has important role in the improvement of the corrosion resistance. The surface morphology of the two samples confirms the formation of the S- Phase. Natural water is one of the most important substance for the maintenance of life. It was called "a primary source of all that exist" by an anciently Greek philosopher Thales of Miletus 2,600 years ago. water is the one of the most astonishing compounds on earth, and even now has not yet been fully deciphered. It is characterized by a complex of anomalous properties that make it very different from other substance (e.g. high melting, boiling, and evaporation points, and dissolving ability)The main part of the Earths water is concentrated in the hydrosphere is not a continuous water cover of the Earth. The result clearly reveal that the water in the studied area in not highly contaminated but the concentration of the various parameter are going towards higher side which indicates the increasing pollution of water which may be due to discharge of industrial effluents on land and surface water bodies, so protective measures should be taken to Check water pollution.Key words:Contamination physical and chemical properties, water quality ×

Load Frequency Control (LFC) is a primary control following disturbances such as faults and load disconnection. It is primitive for proper operation of the power system. It utilizes the real and virtual synchronous inertias for regulating the frequency. The objective of this control is to maintain the frequency within the acceptable limits. This article compares between the performances of conventional based power plant, steam, and hydro power plants. Different control techniques to regulate the frequency of these power systems are highlight, while revealing the promising performance indictor of each type. Optimal and zero steady-state frequency control approaches are investigated for these two systems. MATLAB simulation is used to simulate the dynamic performance of steam and hydraulic power plants. In present work, the problem of convective boundary layer flow of a warm laminar non- Newtonian nanofluid over a vertical surface with melting effect is studied numerically. A non-Newtonian fluid is one whose stream bend is nonlinear. The relationship between shear stress and shear rate for this type of fluid can be mathematically expressed as τyx = K(γ yx )n, so the apparent viscosity for the power law fluid is μ = K(γ yx )n−1. The fluid display diverse properties, shear-thinning, Newtonian behaviour, shear thickening for different values of power law index. A nanofluid model is employed to incorporate the effects of brownian motion and thermophoresis. The governing set of partial differential equations was non-dimensionalized and reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations and is then solved numerically using Matlab. This paper presents an interval-valued method to solve fuzzy multi-level multi-objective integer fractional programming problem (F-MMIFP). The problem under consideration involves fuzzy parameters in the objective functions, in the left-hand side and in the right-hand side of the constraints. The suggested method depends on the concept of the α-level set of the fuzzy numbers. The 𝛂-MMIFP problem can be converted to interval-valued multi-level multi-objective integer fractional programming problem (IV-MMIFP), which can be transformed to interval-valued multilevel single objective integer fractional programming problem (IV-MSIFP) by using the nonnegative weighting sum approach. Then, this resulting problem can be rewritten in the form of real-valued multi-level single objective integer fractional programming problem (RV-MSIFP) using the interval-valued optimization technique together with the convex linear combination of the first and least point of the intervals in the constraints. Finally,....Key words:Fractional Programming, Fuzzy Programming, Integer Programming, Interval Programming, Multilevel Programming, Multi-objective Programming, Non-linear Programming. ×

India is a major rice producing country , and the husk generated during milling is mostly used as a fuel in the boilers for processing paddy, So for every 1000 kgs of paddy milled , about 220 kgs ( 22 % ) of husk is produced , and when this husk is burnt in the boilers , about 55 kgs ( 25 % ) of RHA is generated. This RHA is a great threat to environment causing damage to the land and the surrounding area in which it is dumped. To achieve sustainability, In the present study an attempt was made to partially replace the cement with rice husk ash and compare the strength of concrete thus obtained with conventional concrete. The compressive strength of the concrete with partial replacement of rice husk ash increased with increase in percentage of rice husk ash to some extent..Key words:Compressive strength, Rice husk ash, Concrete, Environment ×

Summer season has never been easy going in Indian states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and other western states. In this hot, dry summer there has been a gradual increase in the temperature levels due to the intense heat waves which takes over many parts of the India, killing hundreds of people and making lives uncomfortable for others. People of weaker section living in dry and drought affected areas are conceived to be the worst hit.The focus of this paper is on possibilities of developing a system that will cool the air in a natural, economical, and environmental friendly way. This may be achieved by assembling a system comprising of plastic bottles on a sheet to provide ventilation and reduce temperature of the room. The main objective here is to check the feasibility of such a system and to verify its working. This might provide relief to economically weaker section of societyKey words:Air Temperature, Cooling techniques, Eco-friendly, Plastic Bottles, Ventilation ×

Thixoforming or semisolid metal processing is an upcoming technology to obtain near net shaped components. The material is processed in between the solidus and liquidus temperatures. This process is also known as thixoforging or thixocasting depending on the initial condition of the billet and process adopted. Fluidity is an important process parameter which determines the quality of the end product. Simulation studies are carried out to determine the fluidity parameter using Taguchi‟s design of experiments. An attempt is made to develop a mathematical model using fuzzy logic approach to predict the fluidity parameter. Some of the process conditions that are used to study the process are billet temperature, ram speed and die temperature. The model is validated by experimental study..Key words:Thixoforming,A356, Fuzzy logic,Fluidity ×

In this study, the surface water flow velocities were seasonally measured in the Duliujian River and the hydrodynamical characteristics of seagoing river affected by marine monsoon were also analyzed from the perspective of flow velocity distribution. The results showed that the distribution of the surface water flow velocity in the Duliujian River was significantly affected by the wind. The flow velocity distribution was found relatively irregular in winter and the maximum value was larger to near twice of that of the other three seasons. For the other three seasons, the large flow velocity regions were moved downstream season by season while the maximum flow velocities were very close. The results of this study may provide some inspiration to the comprehensive understandings on the wind driven surface water flow in rivers..Key words:Hydrodynamics, Flow velocity distribution, Duliujian River, Seagoing rivers, Marine monsoon. ×

This paper describes forecasts for the average concentration of methane for a specific day regarded as a mining cycle. Such forecasts are helpful in taking short-term measures to prevent methane hazards. It presents a comparison of forecast results using the autoregressive and cause-effect models based on a daily coal output at the longwall as a descriptive variable. In the autoregressive model, a descriptive variable was the average concentration of methane on the preceding day with the reference to the day of the forecast. Individual prognostic equations were performed for each day of the week. In the cause-effect model with daily coal output at the longwall as a descriptive variable, linear equations were used as prognostic models, in which the number.......Key words:autocorrelation, autoregression, concentration of methane, forecast for methane concentration, daily output, coal mines. ×

The rapid increase in the distribution of digital multimedia data over networks creates the need for copyright protection. Watermarking is one of the techniques that can be used for this copyright protection. Many authors have proposed pure software or hardware solutions for the implementation of watermarking algorithms. In this paper we propose a hardware/software co-design approach for the implementation of the watermarking algorithm. Processes that demand high performance are implemented in hardware while those that are not computationally expensive are implemented in software. As a result, power consumption is reduced since only portion of the algorithm is implemented in hardware. In this paper we implement a DCT-based visible watermarking algorithm. Our system is implemented on a Xilinx Virtex-II Pro board. 21% of the slices were utilized with a maximum frequency of 131.092MHz.Key words:... ×
