In the present study the effect of addition of fly ash and silica fume with different proportions in concrete on mechanical properties has been studied. In this study 8 different mixes were prepared, in which mixes of fly ash and silica fume at different ranges ( CM, 0FA30SF, 5FA25SF, 10FA20SF, 15FA15SF, 20FA10SF, 25FA5SF, 30FA0SF ) are replaced by weight of cement and strength properties are determined for 7 days and 28 days of curing. The replacement of silica fume at 30% by wt. of cement gives higher values of compressive strength and split tensile strength. Lower values were observed when fly ash replacement by weight of cement in concrete gets increased. Mix with 15% FA 15% SF and 5% FA 25% SF was found.......Keyword: Compressive Strength, Cement, Fly Ash, Silica Fume ×

In this paper a manufacturing inventory model with constant production rates and without shortages is developed for single item where defective items are produced in regular production process with a proportion of defectives as scrap. Defective items are reworked just after the regular production stops. Deterioration starts after some time of regular production and deteriorated items are sold with price discount. Demand rate of perfect items is assumed to be stock dependent. Reworked items are serviceable items with minor defect having constant demand rate. In order that reworked items can be completely sold before the next cycle starts, the demand is enhanced by offering a price discount on reworked items.Numerical examples with tables, graphs and sensitivity analysis are presented to illustrate the model. Keywords: Deterioration, Stock dependent demand, Price discount. Cerium oxide nanoparticles have been synthesized by microwave method using cerium nitrate and methacrylic acid as precursors. The material was structurally characterized by XRD and SEM and the optical characterization was carried out using UV–visible and Photoluminescence spectro fluorimeter techniques. The X ray studies reveal the face centered cubic structures for cerium oxide nano particles. The purity of the sample was confirmed using XRD and EDAX. The absorption studies are used to confirm the bleaching of the dye in the presence of cerium oxide nano particle. The decolourization of the dye and also the decrease in the absorption peak confirms the removal of the dye..Keyword: Solvent free synthesis, Optical properties, Blue shift, Luminescence, bleaching of dye ×

The interest of electronics industry in new organic semiconductors for the manufacture of optoelectronic devices has increased substantially in the last decade. Organic semiconductors thin films have also been used in optoelectronics and photovoltaic devices. They exhibit a high potential for production of low cost, efficient and low temperature optoelectronic devices with the option for large area applications. To develop better light-capturing nanostructures, we plan to connect an excellent light-harvesting organic semiconductor. The aim of this work is to study the influence of film thickness on spectral behavior in the UV-Visible range of thermally evaporated metal substituted phthalocyanine thin films. In this paper, we reported the optical studies of two organic semiconductors such as copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) and cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc). For that, we investigate the UV spectrum at room temperature obtained from thermally evaporated thin films of these organic materials. Keywords: Thin films, Optoelectronics, Organic semiconductors, Copper phthalocyanine, Cobalt phthalocyanine. ×

Infrastructure is a major sector that propels overall development of Indian economy. The foundation is very important for any structure and it has to be strong enough to support the entire structure. For foundation to be strong the soil around it plays a very important role. Expansive soils like black cotton soil always create problems in foundation. The problems are swelling, shrinkage and unequal settlement. Plastic wastes have become one of the major problems of the world. Use of plastic bags, bottles and other plastic products is exponentially increasing year by year. Due to which we are facing various environmental problems. Therefore the correct way disposing off of the plastic waste without causing any ecological hazard has become a real challenge today. Pulse echo technique is widely used for ultrasonic velocity measurements in solids and liquids, but fails to measure ultrasonic velocity in thin samples. In such situations total reflection technique is extremely useful. In the present work, PC based total reflection technique is developed using ultrasonic transmitting and receiving transducers, operated at 1MHz, fitted to the two opposite walls of water tank. The thin sample under study is suspended between the transmitting and receiving transducers; and rotated about an axis perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation. The angle of rotation of the metallic plate is controlled precisely by stepper motor with additional gear arrangement to the resolution of 0.25°. Critical angles for longitudinal and shear components of an ultrasonic wave correspond to the maxima observed at two angles of longitudinal and shear wave component, respectively. This technique has been found to be very effective in thin sample dating. Keywords: Longitudinal velocity, metal plates, Microcontroller (PIC16F72), shear velocity, total reflection technique. ×

Network parameters such as throughput, delay, collision probability, loss of packets are the key indicators that determine the performance of 802.11 DCF. Analytical models facilitate in predicting the value of these parameters based on what-if analysis. These models, based on certain assumptions, give accurate solutions. The key design aspect of these models is the analysis of exponential backoff algorithm among the contending nodes. This survey paper starts by giving an overview of 802.11 protocol. We explore various solutions based on Discrete Markov Chains, Fixed Point Analysis, Petri Nets and Mean Value theory for both saturated and non-saturated networks. The paper critically examines the assumptions, methodologies, and deficits of the proposed models. The objective is to provide the thorough summary of the available literature to enable the research community to address the challenges associated with these mathematical tools. The regulation of the synthesis of cellulase and macerase enzymes by nutrient medium composition and cultivation conditions of the association of micromycetes Aspergillus awamori 1-8 and Aspergillus niger 355 was studied. Optimal carbon and nitrogen sources, as well as the absence of catabolite repression in the enzymes production have been established. The level of biosynthesis of enzymes in Aspergillus awamori 1-8 and Aspergillus niger 355 depends not only on the nutrient medium composition, but also on the method of their cultivation. Model–-based development techniques have been successfully introduced into the design process of aircraft systems. Examples of these techniques are performance models for digital systems and networks or 3D–models for equipment allocation and weight assessments. However, current systems development processes usually do not allow for a continuous usage of models reducing the potential benefits of a Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach such as an interdisciplinary, low–effort evaluation of different design alternatives. The paper presents a novel MBSE approach that focuses on the early development phases............Keywords: Design quality, Modeling, Simulation, Systems Engineering, Traceability ×

Used in several industrial applications, aluminum 1050 sheets have good balance between ductility and strength. Its corrosion resistance and reflectivity make it preferred alternative for food processing containers and light reflective panels. However, forming and bending processes affect its surface quality by the formation of micro-cracks within the forming zones and along the bending lines, downgrading its reflective and microbiological advantages. Raising temperature through direct flame on the deformation region during bending lead to improvement in surface quality along the bend line by reducing micro-crack widths. Other mechanical properties were also found to benefit from elevated bending temperatures, including springback and micro-hardness within the bend region. Nevertheless, benefits gained from elevated temperature were noticed to overturn between 100°C to 150°C depending on sheet thickness and the measured mechanical property. In general, behavior of mechanical properties appeared to reasonably correlate with average micro-crack width on the bent surface.Key words: Aluminum 1050, Rotary Bending, Micro-crack, Micro-hardness, Springback, Temperature, Infrared. ×

Visualizing large-scale dynamic relational data by taking advantage of the geographic map metaphor is considered. A map-based visualization system uses animation to convey dynamics in large data sets, and which aims to preserve the viewer's mental map while also offering readable views at all times is described. One of the main problems in dynamic visualization is that of obtaining individually readable layouts for each moment in time, while at the same time preserving the viewer's mental map. This way of visualizing the trends in popularity of dynamic data by the use of maps overcomes the shortcomings of data analysis via animation.Key words: Maps, Dynamic Data, Data Mining, GMap1 Algorithm, Clustering. ×

Agriculture is the backbone of our country. India is an agricultural country where the most of the population depends on agriculture. Research in agriculture is aimed towards increasing productivity and profit. There are several automated systems available in literature, which are developed for irrigation control and environmental monitoring in the field. However, it is essential to monitor the plant growth stage by stage and take decisions accordingly. In addition to monitoring the environmental parameters such as pH, moisture content and temperature, it is inevitable to identify the onset of plant diseases too. It is the key to prevent the losses in yield and quantity of agricultural product. Plant disease identification by continuous visual monitoring is very difficult task to farmers and at the same time it is less accurate and can be done in limited areas. Friction stir welding (FSW) is a well-known process adopted for joining of different metals and alloys. The process invented by TWI, UK in 1991, is widely used in marine and aerospace industries. Major thrust was given on the effect of tool design and effect of process variables on quality of weld. Thermal analysis of the weldments is very lean in literature. The researchers have used thermocouples for temperature measurement. Infrared thermography is widely used for preventive maintenance in industries. The present paper is different from the view of applying a new concept of IR Thermal imaging for testing and thermal analysis. The technique was adopted by the author to know its utility for FS Welding. It was found to have a great potential in adapting the IR Thermography for friction stir welding experiments.Key words: Friction stir welding, tool design, thermocouple, IR Thermography ×

This paper presents the decentralized control scheme in case of Load Frequency Control used in Power System. This scheme can be used in both single area and interconnected power system. But in an interconnected power system, random change in frequency may lead to change in both frequency and tie line power. To minimize this condition, we must control the frequency which lead to minimize the transient variations by ensuring that the steady state error is zero. Many control techniques are used and their aim is to deliver a control voltage and frequency in a permissible limit. If we change the real power, it will affect the frequency whereas reactive power is dependent on change in voltage. For robustness and reliable control techniques can be obtained with the help of MATLAB-Simulink.........Key words: Load Frequency Control (LFC), PID Controller, SIMULINK model, Tie-Line, Two Area System ×

In modern era, agriculture plays one of the most essential role for growing habitat. Flora provides major source of energy and also helps to reduce global warming. Agricultural plants face various diseases in different stages of its life. Remote sensing techniques are used to explore multi and hyper spectral pictures. It employs digital image processing to monitor health and diseases related with plants. For general production practice, observation through naked eye gives severity and subjective results. Higher disease detection accuracy can be achieved efficiently through advance digital image processing techniques. In the existing work, back propagation (BP) and principal component analysis (PCA) algorithms were usually used for plant diseases detection. These are neural network based learning and supervision algorithms. Much higher accuracy can be achieved using Single Value Decomposition (SVD) algorithms. This paper represents implementation of SVD along with BP and PCA for disease detection. It also shows that better accuracy is achieved with enhanced SVD in contrast to these three algorithms individually.Key words: Back Propagation; Principle Component Analysis; SVD; Plant diseases; Pattern recognition ×

In solving many "real world" engineering optimization applications, it is generally preferable to formulate several quantifiably good alternatives that provide distinct perspectives to the particular problem. This is because decision-making typically involves complex problems that are riddled with incompatible performance objectives and contain competing design requirements which are very difficult – if not impossible – to capture and quantify at the time that the supporting mathematical programming models are actually constructed. There are invariably unmodelled design issues, not apparent at the time of model construction, which can greatly impact the acceptability of the model's solutions. Consequently, it is preferable to generate several, distinct alternatives that provide multiple, disparate perspectives to the problem. These alternatives should possess near-optimal objective measures with respect to all known modelled objective(s), but be fundamentally different from each other in terms of their decision variables. Production of SCC requires a large amount of powder content, thus demanding the high quantity of cement with one or more admixtures. Using large quantity of cement leads to production demand and environmental pollution due to high energy consumption. In view of this aspect, mineral admixtures are used to replace the cement in high volume. Industrial by products such as fly ash, Silica fume and granulated blast furnace slag are used as mineral admixtures in SCC.
